Wish we could have gone here for breakfast (since that is what this place is all about). My friends and I came here for dinner, it felt just right to have a nice country cooked meal after a long day of boarding. We ordered the country fried chicken (nothing special, just fried chicken) and the chicken fried steak (pretty dang good, esp. since there aren't many restaurants in CA that have it). It was slow on a Saturday night so the service was good. =)

Next time we are up in Mammoth, we will for sure return to this little gem. This restaurant was near our cabin so we decided to try it for a late breakfast. All the food was very tasty and home made. We had eggs, sausage, french toast, blueberry pancakes and waffles. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The pancakes had a lot of fresh blueberries cooked inside. My boy friend wanted to try the chicken fried steak but they didn't have any available as we heard it was a "must try"..... This place is a must when in Mammoth.

This is a really good breakfast place if you're in Mammoth, especially if your body feels like ten midgets have been repeatedly kicking you to the ground the night before. All I really remember is faint screaming "we're Little People, damn it!" Drinks are served in quaint mason jars and the eggs benedict provide mouth orgasms. Pancakes are tasty fluff and even the potato skillets are pretty good, though not usually my choice for breakfast. Many a cute snowboarder frequent this restaurant, though it is quite worthless when you're with your sig other.

I first came here as kid 10 years maybe.. im 47 now and always remember the stove breakfast. The whole family loved the stove. I have been there recently and its still good and big food. I have never seen the kitchen but would like to ( I want to see the "A" grade) as other reviews noted there maybe a problem with conditions and bugs. But I will return with my eyes open.

We've been eating here for years! Most of the time back to back Saturday night's for the prime rib special. Well, three times in a row (different weekends) our food came out cold! Lukewarm soup, cold potatoes, over done prime rib and dry blah vegetables! We kept going back and our last visit we even asked the server to make sure our food was hot! Still came out the same, cold and blah! You would think that during the slow economy any savy restaurant owner would be up to speed with superb food to keep their customers coming back, I guess not! Three times is a charm, not going back!

All i can say is wow!!..... Me and four friends wore treated with such lack of respect by the discouteous waitress. Upon seeing how diverse our crowd was,she quickly turned her smile into a frown , instantly noticing that we wore not locals she approached us never introducing her self or anything And Asked in a rude tone what do you guys want. We wore shocked and dissapointed but didn't want to cause a scene by bringing her unexceptable behavior to her attention. She was in such a hurry taking our order i noticed that as i was not acknowledge when selecting my side options for my breakfast. When i asked her to repeat my order it was wrong. We Allowed her to walk away to get our lattes and before she could even bring them back, we pick up ours coats dropped 15 bucks for drinks we never touched and wore never brought out. i was so appalled i called from the car to get her name to yelp about her horrible, dreadful service. We felt very discriminated against. My worst culinary experince yet thanks to Susan. I rated this place 1 star because i can't give it a "0"

I moved to Bishop in '72 about the time the stove opened. Though not the original owners, they have kept it true. We go for breakfast almost eve trip to mammoth. The cinnamon french toast is addictively good. Get the "stove special" and split it...it's huge. Dinner is good too and the pie is a treat.

I don't quite understand the hype around this place. It really wasn't much to write home about. The French Toast was good, but nowhere near "WOW" fantastic. It's crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside so the consistency and texture is nice. The flavor ain't bad either. A hint of cinnamon goes a long way. The portion is also solid. I'd definitely get it again but, again, nothing to write home about. My major disappointment here came with the Prime Rib. It looked FABULOUS from the pics posted here and people generally raved about it. Well, the portion was solid and the flavors were right. The problem lies in the fact that the meat just wasn't tender. It was a bit overcooked for my liking, but you could also tell that the meat isn't exactly USDA Prime nor is it aged. Disappointing. This I wouldn't get again. It doesn't help that the sides were less than impressive also. Overall: Breakfast = YAY! Dinner = BOO!

I got the vegetable omlette (boring I know) and it was delicious! My friend also ordered biscuts and gravy which I sampled and also enjoyed, but my friend thought the biscuts were dry.

A wonderful little diner with real atmosphere. We had lunch here 7/30 and it was delicious. Hubby and I shared a Cobb salad and sandwich and it was all wonderful even though we could not eat all of it! Kids meals were great too. Waiting staff were great, the hostess was a bit snotty.

This place is magic. The food was amazing. We had the top sirloin with mushroom sauce, prime rib, and chocolate fudge cake. Everything was fantastic. Our server Wendy couldn't have been more attentive. Everyone should try this place! You cannot beat the quality food for the price.

Weekend at Mammoth. Foodie at Mammoth can't go on without trying some food! Came here for dinner, not breakfast. The waiter was NICE!! Best waiter I've had in a good while. He was too sweet and his smile was contagious. Cornbread was delicious! So were the little cupcakes (no idea what it was). Served with whipped butter (my favorite!) The salad was good. Got the Chicken Fried Steak. It was a little dry. Added ketchup and it was better. Mashed potatoes with BACON? LOVE!! So good....so good. Didn't have any chicken soup, but BF said it was "ok" Alfredo? Seriously? It was red... like spaghetti....? It was awful! Don't recommend!! Oh... and they ran out of prime rib. They say they run out before 7 p.m. $13.95 Prime rib 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. $15.95 Prime rib 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Portions were huge. Definitely full!

I've been going to The Stove for as long as I can remember. I don't think there's been a single Mammoth trip that didn't include a meal at this tiny place. Breakfast here is great, dinner here isn't bad. Not sure if they still do this, but dinner used to be served with fresh zucchini bread and corn muffins. Number one downside is the wait. You'll almost always have one. 5 stars for memories 5 stars for honey served in bear containers 1 star for long ass waits (that doesn't average out, but who cares)

Great breakfast here can not be beat!!!!!! You are missing Mammoth's best breakfast if you miss the Stove.

Great place to eat during winter or summer. try the huevos rancheros one of the best things on the menu. this place is always busy and has great service. Big breakfast joint.

  • James S.

Came here twice in two days... Four adults and 3 children... Place was really busy, so I'll forgive the poor service, but the food wasn't all that. I guess it was decent for Mammoth standards, but nothing really blew me away. The french toast was pretty good, but the rest of the menu is pretty standard. Might as well go to Denny's. The entire group thought the place was just OKAY.

  • Emily M.

I never miss an opportunity to have breakfast here when I am in town! This is the best place to have a hearty breakfast before hittin' the slopes...the portions are generous and perfect for sharing. I honestly do not have any favorite dishes and I have tried many different items here and have never been disappointed. Okay, if I had to choose a repeat item it would have to be their waffles with fresh strawberries w/ whipped cream (so light and fluffy)! and their bacon is proper...thick sliced and crispy, not too salty! Service always great and they are on top of refills...on the weekends they have a tendency to get quite busy before folks hit the slopes; so plan accordingly.

The French toast was good, not great, the pancakes were passable and the omlette was awful, the cheese had no flavor and the eggs were chewy. The decor is tired and not kept up and they were understaffed, we were here on a Thursday am later in the morning and it took forever to get food even though there were only a few customers

The Stove is my go-to breakfast joint in Mammoth. Everyone has their own and they're all fairly respectable joints IMO, however I am originally from the big 406. That being said, I have lived in Mammoth for over 6 years and I love greasy spoon ma and pops gigs. The stove is exactly that. Come during the holidays and it will be crowded. Come on a random Saturday morning during the summer, it will still be full of people. That speaks for itself. Never been for anything besides breakfast so I cant comment on that. However, morning after the bars, nothing beats their huevos rancheros. Definitely the best the eastern sierras have to offer. Avoid the village(less it be fer bagels) and hit up the stove especially if you're craving some greasy-ass home style diner food. Werd.

My friends and I had a nice time eating breakfast here. They had some old arcade game that my friends played for 50 cents while we waited. After we sat down, my friends ordered their coffee and had an enjoyable time drinking many cups of it, while I had a nice jar of freshly squeezed OJ. As for food, their french toast and sierra sunrise were pretty good, although the biscuits were just ok and their waffles were soft and not crispy. Overall, it's a good breakfast place and probably the best in Mammoth. Overall rating: Service: Great Food: Good Value ( price for quality ): Normal Atmosphere: Good

  • Angela R.

The food was alright at best. I had the chicken fried steak, eggs, and potatoes (biscuit on the side). The chicken fried steak was 70% breading, 30% meat; the eggs were cooked perfectly, the potatoes were greasy and bland, the biscuit almost tasted store-bought. The coffee was worse than the one I get in my office. On the upside, the service was great, the atmosphere was perfect ski-town, and the ambiance really fit Mammoth. I'm not sure I'll go here again, but if I do, I won't be getting the chicken fried steak!

I usually go to Breakfast Club for brunch on my way out of Mammoth, but I wanted to give The Stove a try. I was pleasantly surprised. I realized I had been here before for dinner many years ago, but I have no further memory. The brunch crowd here was not crowded at all for a Sunday morning in February, half full at best. (Maybe it was bc it was Super Bowl Sunday?) The service was great because of it. Lots of servers and busboys around. My coffee was filled several times. I got the pork chop breakfast. Decently thick cut piece over what I think is hollandaise sauce, with a small cup of spiced applesauce and their signature Grandma potatoes. Overall a decent meal. Inside is kinda dark and wooden. I guess it has more of a "log cabin" feel than the "country kitchen" feel of Breakfast Club. Which would I prefer next time? I'd still go to Breakfast Club. I'm used to it there and its directly on the way out. But The Stove is a great alternative.

Holy enormous portions, Batman! Really get a great bang for your buck here. I got 2 LARGE chocolate chip pancakes, 2-3 scrambled eggs, 3 large strips of thick crispy bacon and a hot chocolate for $13. Everything was delicious. I have a large appetite and could not quite finish my pancakes, as good as they were. My wife and her friend realized they could have split a "Stove Special", and will probably do so in the future. The only downside to this place is how gosh darn popular it is. Be prepared to wait at least an hour for breakfast, especially if you come on a weekend around 9:30-10. But if you're not in a rush, this is a great place to have breakfast.

You have to go here!! If you don't then babies will cry and an orphaned puppy will go hungry. Do you really want that to weigh on your concious? Didn't think so. =) By far the best place to eat in mammoth- the service is amazing, so genuine, so sweet, friendly. Food: So authentic and homecooked. It could be nuked in a microwave for all I kow, but it is amazing. They do not try to be Douchey like other places in mammoth.. they are just serving food to hungry people. Always packed.. never empty because of the friendly service and the awesome food. Inexpensive prices for the amount of food you get. Best Breakfast: Pancake sandwich and the Classic combo! BF had the BLAT- So good. Bacon, Lettuce, Avocado (an entire avocado) and tomato. Delicious.

I'm not much of a breakfast fan, but I do love food. This place had HUGE portions, everything was cooked right, the wait for very long though, I had to wait outside in a snow storm a few winters ago, but it was worth it! Service was also very good

  • Tiffany K.

unadulterated orgasm in my mouth! I got the stove special. The waffle, oh my lordie, the waffle. A large waffle with strawberries, powdered sugar, whip creme, and warm syrup. HEAVEN! YOU. NEED. TO. TRY. IT. Bacon was so good. Four strips. Not over cooked like most breakfast places. Eggs. Warm and tasteful. Homefries- taste the way mama would have made it if she made homefries. Gravy biscuits- Pretty awesome. Five stars. Enough said.

We were in ML for the second time and still looking for a good breakfast place. Seems we found it. We both ordered the Stove Special with french toast, based on the reviews. Yep, this is one of the best french toasts I've had, and I'm picky. The sausage links and eggs were good too, and very tasty. The portions are really big, and we both were not able to finish our plates. Came back the next morning to try the pancakes. After the huge portion the previous day, I ordered one pancake and a side of bacon, and still was stuffed. To put this in perspective, the pancakes are the size of a dinner plate. My banana-nut pancake was good, but a bit lacking in banana flavor. The bacon was nice and crispy, although at $3.95 for 4 bacon strips a bit overpriced. This will be our go-to place for bf in Mammoth Lakes now.

Great breakfast spot! They have it right on every front. There can be a bit of a wait on weekends, but worth it.

This place has the most bombest pancakes ever!!!!! The orange juice is served in a jar, and it taste amazing!!! The pancakes are huge! So I recommend the one pancake which is 4.25! Yes they are that big! I recommend everyone to come here!

    (5)
  • Samantha T.

It was my first time at the stove and I am still stuffed 5 hours later. The portions are HUGE and I suggest not eating the night before if you go for breakfast as the portions are enough to feed an army. I ordered the Avocado Omelette which was bit pricey but considering how huge it was it was worth every dime. I suggest getting there early as it fills up quickly and don't expect an overly friendly welcome (we decided she had to be hungover because she was miserably rude). The waitress was great though. Food was wonderful though, great ambiance! I will go back next time I am up here for sure!!!!!

The food was really good. Large servings and service is also pretty good. The french toast is the best!

  • Wayne L.

The food here is the BOMB-literally! The portion of the food is bomblastic and explodes with flavor in your mouth. We usually eat from their breakfast menu-our favorite. Everything that I ordered so far from pancakes, to waffles, to egg combo breakfast, have been super satisfying. No doubt we'll leave the restaurant a few pounds heavier. Only negative is the long wait during busy hours.

yeah, some days i want caviar and champagne, but they don't come in costco size-- so until i find a sugar daddy, i need to watch the wallet, AND quality of food i find acceptable. after a week's worth of bombing down mammoth mountain, i thought it was the right time for the next best thing-- BRUNCH. we got the avocado omelette with turkey with potatoes and banana nut (with pine nuts) pancakes short stack. topped it off with iced coffee. the omelette was PERFECT. there were slices of thin red onion that had been slightly cooked from the sheer heat that enclosed it, giving it the sweetness of a cooked onion, with still the crunch that i like. it was covered in cheese, and though it was a heart meal, i never for a second felt heavy, or bloated from it. the 'shortstack' was the size of my head, and i got a BIG head. (but i'm usually nice.... da ddum!), but seriously.... it was huge, and we could barely finish it. One dish can feed two people, but if you're like me, and you don't like sharing, leftovers are always the best so go for it. My friend got the porkchops for breakfast, and he said they were killing! no complaints here! if you wanna feel less guilty, go hammer on the mountain, then hammer your tummy. win win!

This is the second time I've been to the stove, both for breakfast. I was in a group with eight (8) friends on a motorcycle ride to Reno. The service was good, the tables and booths not made for BIG PEOPLE. We had to split the group up which makes it difficult to chat with everyone. I ordered that skillet thing (called "Everything But the Kitchen Sink" or something like that). The skillet was just okay, but there were too many green bell peppers in it, and not enough potatoes. The banana nut pancakes were also a bit of a letdown, was hoping for lots of bananas but could barely taste them. My girlfriend got the french toast, which she said was very tasty, big, and fluffy. Sadly, 2 of us were jonesing for chicken fried steak, but the waitress said they only make them for dinner. (What???) We thought for sure she would've made an exception to make these fine gentlemen a couple of steaks, but no dice. Isn't the customer ever right anymore? Overall, the experience was just A-OK. No exceptions to the rules, and no mention of the rules, either. Good thing I looked at the check and saw the 18% gratuity that they added without mentioning it...

A breakfast tradition for me. I have been coming here for over 25 years. It's the perfect place to Carb up before that 4-day Mammoth Backcountry trek.

Had the french toast and blueberry pancakes. French toast was awesome, blueberry pancakes were even better- reminded me how bad my homemade pancakes actually are! Service was a mix of different people but speedy and good. My coffee stayed hot. Go early, we arrived at 7:55 am and it was quick, but by the time we left it was jammed.

I've always had fond memories eating here with my folks on those big family fishing trips in Mammoth. So, when you have time (yes there is a wait, a short one at that), make it a point to have breakfast here before you hit the road back home. The portions are huge! I'm a Denver omelet man at this place. It's never changed, even when the ownership has, and I've always left this place a satisfied customer. Also good is the French toast, pancakes, too! Start off with some fresh orange juice and finish with a cup of coffee for the road, you can't go wrong. The staff is courteous and friendly, but genuine as well. They want your continued business the next time your in town and appreciate your patronage. I've eaten dinner here. The lasagna and country fried chicken is good, but for some reason, breakfast is always the best. Maybe it's those fond memories!

On vacation in Mammoth wanted the quintessential vacation diner breakfast and found it at The Stove. Portions were large AND tasty, made to order and totally satisfying. Had the Sierra Surprise with egg whites and had to add a gigantic buttermilk pancake because ... well, because it was a gigantic buttermilk pancake slathered in butter. I allowed myself the extravagance since I'd just run the Mammoth Half Marathon. It absolutely hit the spot and delivered everything I was looking for. Wait staff was great, too.

It's been a tradition to stop at the stove before a big day on the slopes or we leave town. its hearty, filling, and you'll leave with a doggy bag filled with a mix of carbs and protein. if you are there during a holiday weekend, expect a long wait too. try the pancakes and french toast. its amazing!

I've been coming to this venerable establishment since I was a kid for some of the best breakfast in the world. After a 7 year hiatus I recently visited for breakfast and found things as good as ever. Everything is superb on the breakfast menu although my favorite entree is the cinnamon french toast. I've had a lot of french toast in my day and this one is the best I've had hands down. Other items to note are the awesome biscuits, pancakes, bacon and eggs. If you are in the Mammoth Lakes area you should make it a point to start your day here.

--4.6 stars-- Breakfast here at the Stove rocks! Get the French toast and pancakes!!! BEST EVER! You guys have to know that I am a big Hash House a Go-Go fan out in San Diego and Las Vegas...and I can truly say that the Stove is up there in terms of BIG b

Love coming into the stove whenever in Mammoth, however, depending on the time of day, the wait can be too long. Living in the southbay we are used to waiting on the weekends for breakfast, but on a Monday.... We were hoping to make a quick stop on the way out of town, but that wasn't the case, half hour wait. They have super large portions, and most plates can be shared. The food is tasty and the service is friendly and quick.

  • Jim L.

I love to hate this place and I'm not sure why. It can get really crowded (not their fault).. It think it's a bit pricey but you get a lot of food. I think what bugs me is the food can be inconsistent. Some visits it's excellent, others not. The staff can be the same way, they run hot and cold- some days friendly, some not. These days, after years of visiting The Stove, it tends to get the default nod. In other words it gets the "we can't figure out where else to eat today, let's just go to The Stove". So, we feel it good enough to eat at but generally not a first or even second choice. The most consistent thing about the restaurant is that they don't clean their dishes well. Typically its the silverware but when I find lipstick on a glass, I'm not surprised. It can be a very good place for down home cooking and the pot pies are pretty good; but, these days we almost go out of our way to avoid it because we're certain we'll be disappointed in some way. I guess when I spend my money I want a better dinning experience. This coming from a guy that loves a good greasy spoon.

Best waffle....Period. It's perfectly light, airy and crispy texture. All meals are good, but breakfast is best. Huevos Rancheros are delicious. A bit different than traditional Huevos, this dish has lots of shredded beef and cheese and jalapenos. What's not to like about that??!!?? No trip to Mammoth is complete without stopping by The Stove. One of most cherished restaurants in my life.

  • Jen G.

Warning, the portions here are BIG. I read the sidenote on the menu which mentioned that they "use four eggs per omelet" and almost choked, that's a mad amount of food. But the food is solid. I ordered an Avocado Omelet (which, in addition to the four aforementioned eggs, also had an entire avocado in it, now that's bang for your buck!). And do yourself a favor: when they ask whether you want toast or biscuits, order the warm biscuits- they come with butter and honey, and they're quite heavenly. One last thing, the lines on the weekends and peak hours = 1 hour+ wait.

    (4)
  • Barbara L.

Hands down the best breakfast place ever. The omelettes are amazing, the pancakes & waffles are decadent, biscuits & gravy are fantastic. The only bad thing about The Stove is the wait, seems like all the locals and the tourists want to eat there.

I have been going to this restaurant for well over 10 years. They do not serve great food but it has always been good and satisfying. Recently, we were up in Mammoth for one of our many yearly stays. We brought friends with us and ate at The Stove for dinner. Well, I won't go into gruesome detail but everyone's meal was terrible. This was in the beginning of July,2010. Wow! What a shock! I had meatloaf which was indescribably bad, others had pasta, terrible. They were out of prime rib. Service was, as always, wonderful but I cannot imagine returning. I would be afraid to.

A very YUMMY and HEARTY breakfast spot! Large SUVs/Trucks beware when maneuvering in the driveway, I mean parking lot. When the lot is filled with cars, it may be intimidating for larger cars to drive around :( However, this is a cutesy, homey place to dine - we came here since we heard that it serves a fabulous breakfast. Breakfast Plates range from $7.95 - 9.95 and usually consists of 2 eggs, potatoes, and biscuit or toast. The price for the breakfast plate increases if you want to add bacon or sausage. I was STUFFED after I got my breakfast plate: 2 eggs, the BEST scalloped potatoes, yummy sausage patties, and the fluffiest, freshest biscuits ever (w/ Honey FTW!) I tried some French Toast and that was absolutely amazing (getting this dish if I ever come here again!) Look at the pictures! The French Toast can feed up to 2 people. Total bill for 4 people? $40.50

Motels that serve complimentary breakfast? It's a mockery to the first meal of the day. Who the hell wants to eat cereal from a tiny trial size box and in a styrofoam bowl? Why should we resort to 4 day old OJ, brick bagels and a questionable bran muffin as a complimentary "continental" breakfast. When in Mammoth, regardless of which motel you stay at, go to The Stove for breakfast done right. Just try your hardest not to overeat because you'll have to go poo in a couple hours. By that time, you're already knee deep in powder and it's not fun snowboarding down a double black when you got that grizzly feeling of your "turtle head" peeking out.

Great breakfast had the pancakes eggs bacon combo fresh orange juice, my son had the French toast combo he loved it. The place was busy at 1130 . The waitress very pleasant stated she would be right with us and she was. Coffee hot and free flowing which is great. There is a reason why locals keep coming back

We had been up very early and stopped by about 6:30am. By 7am there were people waiting outside. Good service and food. The Stove is the place to go for breakfast at least. We were there two days in a row and it was packed. I don't know about the other times of the day. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros and the waitress said, "Best thing on the menu." It was great. The first time I have ever had shredded beef and melted cheese on top.

The chololate pancakes are delicious with butter, no syrup required. The biscuits and gravy weren't what I was expecting - made with Bacon instead of sausage, but tasted fresh and homemade.

  • Bob I.

I've eaten there several times, it's always been really good and you aren't likely to leave hungry.......try the Huevos Rancheros, and plan on not needing further food til dinner time. Every inch of that plate was covered in a thick layer of food, and it was tasty as well. I understand they are opening a new location, or simply moving to a location on the main street. Before a long day fishing, hiking, skiing, I can see why so many folks like this place......

The food is definitely what you would classify as "meh." It's nothing extraordinary or exceptional, but theres only so many restaurants in Mammoth...so theres not too many other choices :/ Don't come here with high expectations of mind-blowing flavor or high-quality food...Otherwise you'll probably want to cry after. You definitely don't go here for the smiles, either. I found the service to be curt and rude. When they first came to our table, the first thing the waitress said is "are you ready yet?" And later came back to throw some cornbread on the table and then quickly hurried off. Also...don't hesitate at all when ordering. Say so with confidence and authority. Otherwise the waitress might give you a look that reads "wtheck is wrong with you. you're wasting my time" Mammoth, in general, is a very friendly town, but it seems like all of the rude people got hired here. :/ What's my advice? Go to Angel's Restaurant on Sierra Blvd.

Went in a big group for dinner. Tables here weren't big enough to hold even 8 people at one, so we had to split into two booths. Most people went for the prime rib dinner and were satisfied. Those who ordered the fried chicken were also not disappointed. Unfortunately, I ordered the chicken pot pie which was HORRID. The frozen pot pies you get at the supermarket taste better! The presentation of the potpie left something to be wanted. Once you break the crust, one immediately notices that the crust is dense and not at all buttery or flakey. The goodies inside were really no good. Not creamy, NO FLAVOR, and not even warm. Plenty of salt and pepper couldn't save it. Had friends try it and they all agreed, it couldn't get any worse. Sent it back. Waiter seems shocked. Owner handed me a menu but NO apology. Service was decent. Corn muffins were dry. Manhatten clam chowder left something to be wanted but decor and service was decent. This place needs an overhaul before I dare go again.

Summary: A down-to-earth, home-cookin', friendly albeit scattered service lends satisfying nourishment in this area. Don't come here counting calories or expecting some kind of gourmet service. These are real folks serving you real food. The food isn't fusion, it's not trendy, it's just down to earth American food. Its hit and miss in terms of what's good (stick with simple stuff like breakfast or steak and you can't go wrong), and some of the deals are great. The prime rib special is awesome! The decor and atmosphere is quirky, the service is decent, prices are reasonable. It gets packed very quickly. We got there 10 minutes before it opened up and as soon as it turned into supper time there were 5 cars pretty much pulling in at the same time.

Great place for breakfast, obviously a local favorite. The decor is country kitsch and the food is your basic all-american fare. I had the breakfast combo that included a ham steak ,2 eggs and a short-stack of pancakes - IT WAS HUGE!!! S.O. had a scramble that was also ridiculously large - but hey, the prices are fair and after a morning of mountain bike riding or skiing, this would be a great place to nosh. Only downsides was the LONG-wait time (we noticed that this is a trend at the breakfast joints in Mammoth).

The Stove is my favorite restaurant in the world, hands down. I have been eating at The Stove ever since I was a little kid and my family has years before that. I'm embarrassed to admit that I have waited over an hour for The Stove's PANCAKES!! The pancakes are as big as your head and taste like heaven in your mouth. Give me a half hot chocolate half coffee with whip and a blueberry pancake and I'm ready to start my day on the lopes, hiking or biking. I personally have the opinion that they need to expand. During tourist peak seasons this place cannot handle the amount of people who want to be served and they have to turn away customers. The only flaw in the food is that the nuts in the banana-nut pancakes are peanuts! Even taking in consideration the crowds and peanuts, The Stove is my favorite place of all time

Really good breakfast, for a pretty cheap price. I think they had the best waffle I've ever had in the states. Really light, but stood up well against the onslaught of butter and syrup. The rest of the breakfast food was pretty good. Note, if you get the ham option with your breakfast, it's a pretty sizeable hunk of the other white meat - think 2x the size and 4x the thickness of your typical breakfast slice o' pig. I'll have to come back here the next time I'm back in town.

This was definitely one of the better places to eat in Mammoth considering what your options are. The breakfast selection is great...they serve comfort food dishes like biscuits and gravy, juice and milk in jars, etc... I had the denver omelet which would be good if you are a cheese lover. I personally thought there was too much cheese, but that's just a personal thing. I also had the biscuits and gravy...the biscuits were very fluffy! Their potatoes were seasoned with the same type of salt you have at red robin...which added a lot of flavor! And oddly enough, their jam was EXTREMELY yummy! I even ate it alone! I'm not sure if it was homemade, but it was delish. The bf had the waffle which is by far the best dish here. It was the fluffiest waffle i've ever had and I dont even like waffles!!! It was almost like a pancake bc it was so soft. MM! There is definitely a small-town feel to this place. There was a wait to get seated and the hostess (which is also the owner, I think) saw a friend come in and immediately sat them when there were other people waiting in front of them. At first, I was very disappointed that she blatantly did that...but when I thought about it, I can understand why she did that. I would do the same for a friend...but just word of the wise: do it discreetly. The couple next to us left because she did that. conclusion: GET THE WAFFLE!!!! I would come again!

I really shouldn't even write a review on this place, simply refer to the review done by Dave G. I was simultaneously looking for a place to eat while in Mammoth while staring at the Van De Kamps danishes, bagels, bananas, apples, and smelling the Folgers coffee at my hotel's complimentary continental breakfast.....survey says??????????? XXXXXXXXXXXX. I wholeheartedly agree w/ Dave G. Go to this place. Order a breakfast done right. Avacado omellette with bacon, served up with potatoes and two biscuits (umm......1500 calories? who cares.......you'll burn it off). Solid way to start of a big day on the slopes. Sure.......I started to feel my huge breakfast coming up and nearly barfed from the exertion when I was hop-jumping down the double black diamond "Climax" up on the slopes.......but it was all worth it!!!!!!!! Supposedly the lines get really long here (like an hour wait?) but we went on a Saturday at 7 pm and there was no wait (but supposedly this year in Mammoth, there are far less people due to the economy?) Suggestion to get yer butt outta bed, head to the Stove, order a coffee, something w/ eggs and bacon or pancakes. Come back to Yelp. Write a good review. Ski. Thank me later.

Pass!!!! Tourist trap with no other options in mammoth, what's a girl to do? The prices so high and the food dry and bland. The chicken fried steak was huge but, it just tasted like thick breading. WHATEVER on that and what a huge let down on chicken fried steak. that certainly isn't even close to what it should be.. Gravy was bland. The corn bread served was so dry, almost stale. I had the chicken pot pie and was SO not happy with it. The inside was BORING but edible, but the dough was only on the top and it was not the right kind of crust... It tasted like cardboard really, something from the twilight zone. My son had one bite of his burger and refused to eat it- upon closer inspection it was still on the pink side- not good as my son rarely passes on a hamburger. My friend had a pasta dish with veggies and complained because the veggies were obviously frozen!! Frozen Veggies in CALIFORNIA? AND, the dish was about $14?? pleez.. The worst part is the bill.... Talk about a rip off. Don't bother. Cook in the cabin instead. And, check out the review by CARL S. on this place: Vermin / roach infestation?? He has posted the health department's report on his comment section. Pretty scary.

Breakfast is okay - I know it's hard to find a decent meal in Mammoth. Dinner was horrible. Wife got fried chicken, inside it was completely uncooked... Didn't even get an apology.

oh my god! Breakfast to live for. Their pancakes, waffles and french toast was as large as the plate it came on. The food was so fulfilling i did not eat for the rest of the day.

I have only been here for their brunch, but all I can say is if you're leaving Mammoth, you should hit up the Stove for brunch. Be prepared for a wait, however it's well worth it...the lines should tell you. I ordered the Stove special which consisted of 2 egss (your style), ham/bacon/or sausage, french toast/waffles/or pancakes, all for $9.95. You should definitely try the french toast, it's very light, fluffy and tasty. Service was very attentive and great. I'd definitely come back again also to try their dinner - prime rib....mmmmmmmmmmmmm

Cute little restaurant that offers some good breakfast and lunch (not sure about dinner). The portions are pretty large and service is fast. Sierra Sunrise: Loaded with cubes of ham, onion, and bell pepper. The potatoes were my least favorite part of the meal. Some of them were very soft and some were overly crispy where they were hard. But topped with hot sauce and sometimes some gravy, the dish was overall a success. Eggs with mushrooms and hash browns. The potatoes had a nice crispy crust. Patty melt sandwich: Perfectly grilled sourdough bread with loads of french fries. The french fries were fried too long and most of them were dry/hard. The best part of the meal with the biscuits. They were very fluffy and tasted good with strawberry jam or smothered with gravy.

Always crowded in the morning, summer or winter, yet I still go. The other breakfast places in town are half-decent, but I like this one. Actually, nothing is really noteworthy other than the fact that the bacon is thick and they give you like 4-5 pieces on an order, which I find generous. People love the biscuits, which are good, but I guess I'm not a biscuit guy. The seats are way tight and close to the table, so be warned.

So I used to go here all the time as a little girl. I lived in mammoth and it was amazing back then. Prices, however, seemed to go up. And to make it worse, 3 insiders told us they quit the place because the food preparation was not as sanitary and as appetizing as it looked on the outside. They would use month old already prepared eggs for breakfast dishes and just heat them up in the microwaves... Some other stuff too.. but for me, I would need proof they changed their ways for me to go back again..

Probably 25-35 minutes wait time, we get parking right away as turn over for tables is really quick. We always have a great time here. It almost looks like the owner is also the host who gets everyone seated. I've had omelettes but my favorite is always the belgium waffle with fresh strawberries and whipped cream. The menu seems to be a bit entertaining and some humor and thought put into it. The sides are really on the side, you have to see that for yourself. The lot and the front of the business are a little better because there is space for people to hang out and kids to entertain themselves. Not much of the hustle and bustle as other places. This is always a favorite spot to come to while you are up here or your last stop before heading home. Bring an appetite because the dishes are not skimping on the portions. You may have to bring some home if you don't finish what's on your plate. Will be back here again soon. Those in our group stopped here for dinner to try it out. They said it was good but always prefer the breakfast.

This is only for breakfast review. (4.5 star) Best breakfast in Mammoth? I recommend the French toast, bacon and potato scallops. Food: (Good) Sausage - 3.5/5 - pretty tasty but large and I like the more crispy outside and tender/taster inside. Waffle - 3.5/5 - pretty good, not too heavy and tasty but go with the french toast. Pancakes - 3/5 - ok, get the french toast. French toast - 4.5/5 - def the best thing, very tasty and cooked perfectly. Ham - 4/5 - more flavorful than the sausage, but again I like it a little more crispy on the outside. Bacon - 4.5/5 - Get this, better than ham or sausage, very tasty and good perfectly. Egg scrambler - 3/5 - Ok, the foods inside don't complement each other that well. Potato scallops - 4/5 - Pretty good, cooked well and had a nice seasoning. Western omelet - 4/5 - Pretty tasty and good but not as good as some of the other things. Service: (good) -The lady was nice, we kept telling her to go away because they were so fast and we weren't ready. -She just keep joking with us, and another guy too, they were all so happy. I guess they are morning people? -Over all, fast and helpful. Parking: (good) -Have their own parking lot that has more than enough to fill their tables Place: (good) -Overall everything was pretty clean. Bathroom, floors, table, seats. -Interesting old tymey decore -Bench style seating for large parties which is pretty cool and comfy.

This is a not-to-miss place for my wife and I when we come to Mammoth. They have amazing breakfasts and their bacon is soooo good. Come early or be prepared for a wait. Good friendly service, and a small town feel give this cozy place it's charm.

The Breakfast Club is our regular place, but today decided to make the trek down to The Stove. We've past by and heard nice things but there was always a crowd. The last time we checked the wait was 45 minutes. We figured it might be okay because it's the end of the ski season. After waiting a minute or two at the 'wait to be seated' sign we were acknowledged and seated at one of their 15 tables that were ALL booths. The food was 4 out of 5. The coffee was our best guess of what Folgers must be like. It was more water than coffee. I ordered the Denver omelet; hubby the Western omelet, and buddy the mushroom scramble. The omelet was 4-6 eggs and milk-fluffy. Minus one star because potatoes and the toast are the sides with no free substitutions (ie: fruit, salad, cottage cheese, tomatos) - unless you wanna pay $2, which I did not. Not after paying $10 for the omelet. So, my final gripe was that the toilet was running and didn't flush. Lucky for me, I know toilets enough to be able to open the top up and make it work, and lucky for them they don't get two stars!

  • Taylor W.

Never had anything other than breakfast here, but if I could give it 6 stars I would. I don't know how or why anyone would go anywhere else other than The Stove for breakfast while in Mammoth. The portions are huge. Omelette's are made with 4 eggs, pancakes are the size of a pie, and the french toast is ridiculously good. Go here, go often. Do not miss this mammoth staple!

  • Lily L.

yes, there'll be a long line. but as everyone else has already figured out, it's worth the wait. the "stove special" was a home run: 2 eggs cooked to order, choice of bacon/sausage/ham, and choice of pancakes/waffles/french toast.

In a day when great food and great service together, have gone the way of the dinosaur, The folks at The Stove make both a priority and deliver a fast, friendly and amazing mouth watering comfort food experience. Many say it is hands down, the best food in town, I can definitely agree! Definitely try the huge, homemade Chicken Fried Steak and French Toast! YUMMY!!!!!

Such a cute place in the middle of town. It's a house converted to a great eatery. My friend took me because every time she comes to Mammoth she has to go for breakfast (she LOVES the French Toast). I got a custom omelet (broccoli, avocado, sausage and cheddar to be exact) with homemade biscuits. Ok, who does biscuits anymore? That's why I had to order them. Everything was so good! So much food I took 1/2 or it home. The service was great because the staff are locals. They love to chat about the history of the restaurant and the area and are very knowledgable. Great dining experience and a must when visiting Mammoth!

Well after reading all the reviews I was definitely excited for a good stack of pancakes. We got there and were seated immediately but our waitress was very impatient and abrupt. I was in the process of asking her how big the pancakes and French toast orders were and she responded with "normal size"... Then went on to say " I have other tables that need me so are you ready or not?" I hastily ordered pancakes... Bad move. I could take the extra baking soda in them and the underdone mush in the middle didn't help one bit. Wouldn't go back.

I cannot get enough of this place! I have been coming here for as long as I can remember every time I come to Mammoth! They are open for Breakfast, Brunch and Lunch. I have tried almost everything on their menu! By far my favorite thing there are their pies! I could eat the blueberry pie every night for the rest of my life and still never get enough of it! This last trip between three of us we shared the Chorizo scramble and the chocolate chip pancakes. YUM! It came out fast, hot, and delicious! I wish I lived closer. I am not normally a breakfast person but if this place was close to me, I sure would become a breakfast eater! The service is always friendly and attentive. The only thing I do not like is the coffee.

Scrumptious! (Weird word, I know, but at The Stove, it fits!) The Mammoth Half's goodie bag included a list of participating restaurants offering a 10% off coupon; so, since The Stove was close by, we gave 'em a try, and I am very glad we did! Erin was our server--she's very nice and certainly inclusive of this 5-star review--however, it was the food that takes top honors here, my hat tipped to the chef. With a Southern comfort push and a hometown, country flare--meatloaf, fried chicken, apple pie--The Stove definitely leaves you satisfied...and a bit lethargic, perhaps. But it was so good! I mean, soooo good! A mashed potatoes & gravy frenzy! (I couldn't help myself.) The Stove will definitely be a mainstay of ours as we continue visiting Mammoth, but next time we're going for breakfast as well!

A cozy little cabin with food that hit the spot after a long, chilly day on the slopes. There weed pies waiting welcomingly on their shelves. The spareribs we ordered was huge! And pretty good. Our starved bellies might've been a little bit biased, as things seem to taste better when you're hungry, but I doubt it. I still remember that the meal tasted home cooked, well seasoned, both meat and vegetables. There was plenty garlic in the spinach I ordered. We ordered our meat medium rare and it was quite rare, so keep this in mind when you order. I forgot if it was bread, biscuits or cornbread, but that was delicious too. Did I mention the portions were huge? Even after a long day on a slope and no lunch, we still couldn't finish. We even tried by sacrificing our dessert bellies. Service was quick. We didn't have to wait for a table because we arrived quite early, but the place did fill up gradually as we dug into our meals.

Excellent breakfast and lunch place with charming old-style decor. Great for gluten free as well. They have gluten free granola and Udi's bread and made us off-menu gluten free French toast and grilled cheese upon request. My very particular 8 yr old raved about both. My chicken breast sandwich was top notch as well. Definitely our new go-to spot in Mammoth!

I'm a big judge on value. If you serve me average food for a gourmet price then you will NOT get a good review. I had breakfast here and it was an average greesespoon and overpriced. Nothing impressive, sorry.

Consistently delicious breakfast. We came back twice during our 4 day stay, because the waffle was the best we have had. Buttery and sweet and salty all at the same time, with a bit of crispiness! They serve hearty portions...we had thee sunrise skillet and shared it with a waffle. Next time we had huevos Rancheros and shared it with another waffle. Great place for breakfast or brunch!!!

I can't believe I never wrote a review for The Stove! This is our annual snowboard trip breakfast place for the day we drive home. Always busy but food is delicious and the staff are always on top of it. I pretty much always get the pancakes with bananas and nuts, scrambled eggs and ham. My boyfriend generally gets the french toast combo. All so good!

The host greeted us with a very warm welcome. We were seated immediate. Our server brought us water. We were also treated with warm biscuits and a muffin. I had the meatloaf dinner entee with fries. My entree also included a large plate of salad. My honey had the Sierra sunrise. Yes, breakfast is served all day. After dinner, we also had a piece of blueberry pie a la mode. The menu prices are so reasonable. We will definitely come back to this restaurant.

The Stove is one of those Mammoth restaurants that will forever have my heart. Just country enough and just random enough (hello Pac-Man machine) to make its way in and keep pulling you back. Also, the food and the service are spot on. Having missed out on making the stop my last couple of trips up, I made sure to prioritize it this time. It was just as great as it always is. Fresh squeezed juices in mason jars, a breakfast menu that isn't super overwhelming, but has everything you could possibly want, and enough deco so there's never a dull moment waiting for your food (which doesn't take long anyway). My friends and I opted to create our own smorgasbord and ordered all of the following: 1. Breakfast burrito w/ tofu crumbles (for the veg of the group), which came with a side of potatoes. 2. Chicken fried steak smothered in gravy with potatoes and fluffy biscuits on the side. 3. Huevos rancheros with two eggs over medium, brimming with shredded beef and green chiles, served with a massive side of refried beans. 4. One blueberry pancake for the table. 5. One piece of cinnamon French toast for the table. All the sweeter/baked breakfast items are served with a giant scoop of whipped butter. Everything was fresh, delicious and the right amount of breakfast food heavy. Of course, you will probably want to stop eating halfway through and take the rest home because the portions are so huge. Second breakfasts for all! The French toast was probably my favorite, but the huevos rancheros were a close second. I was skeptical about the shredded beef when reading it on the menu, but I can't imagine this dish without it. They also brought out a bowl of fresh salsa that was a refreshing addition to the Tapatio hot sauce I would normally use. Not the cheapest place, but not bad - most main dishes start at $11.95 and the single piece of French toast was $4.95. In total three of us each spent about $27 after tax and tip. Can't speak to the lunch or dinner menu items, but whether you're planning a day of relaxation or you're heading to the mountain, their breakfasts will start you off right.

Passing through Mammoth on our way to Yosemite and Tahoe for our family camping trip/road trip. I've been to Mammoth many, many times before and I have no idea how I missed The Stove! I mean, the sign is huge, but it's also a popular spot among locals and tourists alike! So, it's been bookmarked for snow season, because the hearty food here is perfect for a long day on the mountain (^_^) My bf and his dad had this great idea to go camping since they haven't been in forever, and I've never been to Yosemite! Yeah, yeah real Californian of me, I know(-_-)Anywho, the plan is to eventually make it to Tahoe, and spend a few days camping there. But with many pit stops along the way, I'm so freakin glad I insisted on stopping in Mammoth for breakfast! We might have missed out on some amazing homestyle breakfast. Literally, this place is a little joint that reminds me of a few places in Georgia! So cute, and the atmosphere is just plain friendly! We walked in and were greeted by 2 young girls, one of which who eagerly seated us. One of the walls was lined with old fashioned China plates, I had to laugh because my grandma has a similar looking wall at her house! As we took our seats, I noticed a cabinet..yes a cabinet, full of homemade pies! I could hear my tummy rumble at the sight, they looked so goood!! I popped open my menu and perused the goodies I could feast on. Oh, and if you get really antsy waiting for your food, they have a Pac-Man game, old school status! The Stove is open for breakfast and lunch from 6:30AM to 2:00pm, then they close til dinner at 5(but dinner is only Thursday-Sunday)but breakfast is served alllll day. Pretty cool because you know that what you'll be served is definitely made to order. The smell of fresh biscuits and bacon fill the air here, making it hard to wait patiently for your food. It's not really peak season, so it wasn't packed, but it was fairly busy for a Saturday morning. We sat down and waited about 10 minutes before our waitress came for our drink order. When she returned we placed our orders, and began chatting about the rest of our trip. It only took about 20 minutes for our plates to come out, which I thought was pretty good timing. Gives you enough time to wake up and enjoy your first cup of coffee, which was really good too! Gotta love a place that gives you a great cup of joe. when our orders arrived, I was pleasantly surprised at how hearty the helpings were. Especially considering they weren't outrageously priced, like most places in a tourist spot would be. My bf ordered the Prime Rib Hash with two eggs, his dad ordered the Sierra Sunrise, and I had french toast and the Sierra Sunrise as well. Yep, I tend to oink out at breakfast, can't help it (^_^)! The French Toast was amazing, nice and crispy, dipped in just the right amount of eggwash cooked til they're perfect golden brown! Crispy, yet still soft and fluffy in the middle. And tipped with just enough powdered sigar to remind you of fresh snow on the mountains! The Sierra Sunrise is a skillet dish, full of bell peppers, ham, diced potatoes, onions, and cheese topped with 2 eggs, cooked anyway you like. His dad opted for sunny side up, I took 2 over easy. This was really yummy, and would be perfect for a long day or hiking or snowboarding (depending on which season it is), the bell peppers and onions weren't super soft or soggy, but sautéed just right, to were they still had a little crunch, but they weren't raw. Bf's Prime Rib Hash was delicious, I usually don't eat steak for breakfast (it's just a little too much for me, and I hit a food coma before 8 am), but his steak was cooked to his specifications, and the potatoes and veggies weren't completely washed out by the amount of steak in that skillet! The juices are freshly squeezed and brought out in mason jars, my favorite! And they recycle their Honey Bear bottles, and refill them with table sugar versus just throwing out tons of plastic. All of the sweeter/baked items come with a dollop of fresh whipped butter, and the syrup delivered with your waffles or french toast is bomb.com . I like syrup though hehe. For the 3 of us, we spent about $60 including 2 coffees, 2 cocoas and 3 orange juices. Not bad, for the amount of food, and we all took some back for a second breakfast, that's how sizeable the portions are! yummy!! The Stove definitely satisfied the yummiest of yummies in our tummies on a Saturday morning, and I can't wait to come back! Friendly service, and amazing food. I recommend this spot if you're in dire need of protein before, or after a long day on the slopes! Or even if you're just passing through Mammoth and you need a good cup of coffee (^_^)

As you step into the restaurant you can tell that it has that old country feeling. At first I was afraid to eat out here, I feel like there are very limited choices and everything is expensive due to the location. Everything I had here isn't so great so I'd rather cook at the condo. I had the natural which is fruits and granola with a choice of milk, Greek yogurt, or cottage cheese. The fruits I saw on a picture on yelp had blue berries and grapes with strawberries and bananas, but mine only had strawberries, bananas, and watermelon... Still great just ask what fruits are going to be available when you order. The granola was great taste a bit like raisins and the fruits were also sweet. Very big portion and I didn't eat it all. My wife had bacon, eggs, toast, and pancakes. Everything was really good though bacon was a bit salty. The pancakes were really good and they are pretty wide. Good breakfast.

Good food and cool decor. Other than that, not too pleased. I had heard this place was good and was excited to try it. Perhaps I just ordered the wrong thing because everything else looked delicious. My breakfast burrito came with a mountain of melted cheese on the top which was a turn off, and also felt like they maybe put one piece of bacon in it, which was disappointing. My friend and I ordered the exact same thing except mine had sour cream, which turned out to be about half a spoon full on top of the burrito which I got charged $2 more for. I ended up throwing away half of my burrito because it made me feel sick. They also asked my girlfriend if she would like a refill of her coffee when it was barely halfway gone and they charged us for an additional whole coffee. In addition to this the seats were very uncomfortable, it seemed like they bent forwards instead of back and were made from solid wood and had no cushioning at all. Lastly, about 15 minutes after getting our food they gave us the check. Didn't seem like they wanted us there for very long. Basically just seemed like they wanted to get as much money out of us as they could and get us out as quickly as possible. It's a shame because it is a cool place and some of the food looked really good. Might give it another try, might not.

Favorite breakfast in town! Good, simple comfort food in a homey atmosphere. They've got everything from yogurt, fruit and granola, to super thick-dusted with powdered sugary goodness French Toast or old school chicken fried steak. All the staff are warm & welcoming and we've never had to wait long. A Mammoth must!

Rude manager, rude waitress. They don't split the bill and they want to charge you double for the tip. Once when they calculate your tip and another tip for a different amount after they run your credit card. Beware!

We have been to The stove many times and it never disappoints! It was a busy summer morning but the service was again excellent! We both had the Sierra Sunrise and it was delicious as always! Get the biscuits they are awesome!

Don't order the prime rib! It's full of FAT! The reason I give a 3 stars because the muffins are good and the service is excellent!

This is one of the few restaurants I have eaten at in Mammoth. I usually just eat home cooked food. Anyways. I have been here a couple times over the years. Usually it was packed, but on my last visit, it was really slow. The service was good and I haven't eaten anything here that I wouldn't order again. Another plus is that they have a Ms. Pacman!

One thing I like is consistency. I probably went a good year and a half without going to The Stove and was pleasantly surprised when my favorites were on the menu when I went back and that they still tasted great! My husband had the French toast (yum!!) and I was the Sierra Sunrise (double yum!!) and we were both very happy with what we got! Now... To why I'm only giving two stars. We went in with our 18 month old son to have breakfast. He was hungry and cranky and was getting a bit fussy. I had to get up to use the restroom and he got even more upset when I left. As I was walking out of the restroom, I overheard one of the waiters saying, and I quote directly, "why doesn't someone put that child out of his misery?!" What?!? I'm sorry, but there is ABSOLUTELY no reason to ever talk about someone's child like that! This was rude and cold hearted and insulting to me and my child and this single reason is why I will never go back.

For those who want a solid breakfast spot when in Mammoth, this is definitely one of the first places you should consider! The parking lot on the left side is small, but there should be plenty of parking on the right side, which you can access from the main road or from driving behind the restaurant. There isn't much space at the front of the restaurant, and since it's mighty cold in the winter, be prepared to be packed in like sardines! The hostess's voice was very soft, and could barely be heard over the din of chatter and happy conversation, but we kept an ear out for our name to be called. Was told we would have to wait around 30 minutes, but sat after 45. Our waitress was clearly very busy, but also very good at her job. She took our orders, grabbed our drinks, and brought us our food within a span of twenty-ish minutes. I "built my own omelet," which was very good. It came with a side of hash browns that were a little cold, but hey, can't complain with the weather Mammoth has been facing recently. Their coffee was also excellent -- they kept coming back and refilling our coffee every ten minutes or so. Great service, great food, and great atmosphere -- will definitely be back!

After a long day of snowboarding, we were hurtin' for some protein! I like how they brought out some biscuits for our table before we even ordered. I was so hungry, I ordered the 16 oz Prime Rib. It comes with a soup or salad, and 2 sides for $20. I got the French Onion Soup and a side of Glazed Carrots and Mashed Potatoes. When my soup was brought out, there was some nasty gunk residue on my soup spoon. The server was apologetic and brought me another spoon. The soup was pretty tasty. It was topped with some shredded cheese which melted in the soup, as well as a piece of bread with some seasoning. It took a little while for the entrees to come out - at least 20 min later. And when they came out, I was a little disappointed with the Prime Rib. It seemed a little bit overcooked. It tasted really bland and wasn't seasoned. The meat was tough and rubbery, and the tendons made the prime rib really difficult to cut through. Seemed like it was frozen, thawed and heated. The mashed potatoes seemed like they were made from boxed mashed potatoes. I wished they were made fresh from actual potatoes. Despite everything, I was starving and ended up finishing the whole plate. I guess I can't complain too much about a restaurant being able to serve up prime rib at 8000' for $20.

Again, another satisfied customer. Didn't get the bitchy waitress from before, so it made the experience perfect. Stove special will hold me till dinner. Real happy we stopped.

I got takeout from here - and the service was spectacular. I mean all I got was takeout, but they were just so incredibly nice and helpful and polite - offering to to get the door for me, getting me some tea that I added to my order later, and all with so much politeness. Really appreciate it.

Have not been to the Stove in about 2 years. We had some friends in from out town and were telling them how good this place is. Wow we were wrong, the quality of food has really changed and the service isn't as good. When we paid our bill, I asked the cashier if there was a new owner, she told us yes. I told we will not be back and tell the owner. Don't change what made this place great.

If anyone is wondering if there is a stove at the Stove...There is. An old style stove at the front. We just came here after years of driving by this place whenever we are up here. So we came here for a late breakfast (brunch). So my cousin was leaving back home so to spend a little bit more time when came here. We all ordered different items. I am not much of a breakfast person so I ordered Belgim waffles and a side of turkey patty. Tis is a good 2 items that I ordered. The servers was excellent and very friendly. The price is okay but I was thought about getting Chicken Fried Steak but got the waffles instead. The price for the chicken fried steak was 12.95...Yikes. One last thing, there is an old school table top Pac-Man game there. Last time I saw one of those was at Black Anus Torrance which they took out.

First let me say that I had high expectations given the positive reviews on Yelp. The service was excellent... But the food was not as great as what we were hoping for. It may have been because we were there relatively late (8 pm) which may have caused us to get the "bottom" part of the batch. The best thing served that day was their beef and vegetable soup. As far as the dinner courses, I would recommend that you go elsewhere and would even recommend that you head over to the Vons deli accross the street :( Fried chicken. It was dry and overcooked. Pork Chops. Nothing amazing, or would get again. it was actually rubbery. Salmon. Portion was ridiculously small. Prime Rib. Was the biggest disappointment. It tasted like the last slice left and a franchise diner, like Dennys, would do a better job.

Dinner menu very bleak $15 sandwiches cream of broccoli soup so rich thick could have been 3000 calories wallpaper paste even the coffee was watered down.

This is my first time here. I had a mimosa $5 for a full glass or $15 for a carafe. Delicious bc they use their fresh squeezed oj! They have gluten free toast and granola for those out there who need it! My bf is one of those and it's a huge plus to have plenty of options for him. I ordered the special with eggs bacon and French toast. Everything tasted amazing and was perfectly cooked. My bf ordered prime rib hash and I tried a bite. Delicious! Also while creepin on other peoples plates I saw that the biscuits look super fluffy and amazing! I want to try them next time. And also the chicken fried steak and eggs looked bomb. If I were more hungry I would have ordered it but I knew I couldn't eat it all. Great service. Very friendly staff. I highly recommend this place!

Came here for lunch the prime rib French dip was amazing.. The club was good but not the best I've had, I love that they sell Serrano's. I would of giving it 5 but I didn't care for the staff to not use a better dress code.

I love The Stove. I am in Mammoth once a year for about a week. The Stove is one of those must stop breakfast locations! Make sure you give their French toast is a must try. I have only ever had breakfast here; however, everything I have had their is good.

Went back not too long ago and I may have been a tad to harsh in my previous review. Went for dinner again and this time around I had a really strong craving for prime rib. So it was either going to the Stove or the Mogul. The Stove won because of their pricing and they definitely delivered. Before that however they served us this awesome spinach soup. I could have eaten that alllllllllll night! Next was the prime rib. It was served with horseradish and mashed potatoes. It was all very delicious and you really get your money's worth. 10 oz for $18. Can't beat it. Wish I was in Mammoth now just to have some!

Good ol comfort food.. Gravy and hash browns chicken fried steak had the right batter and gravy, needed a better quality steak service was good even tho' they were mobbed on a sun @ 10AM. coffee drinkable- I need starbucks or better and most diners are a don't bother . eggs and hash browns just perfect. prepare to wait min 15-45 min, but their hosting staff is top notch and keep you apprised of the situation.

Super yum!!! Fresh squeezed OJ is amazing! I'm a HUGE Mexican breakfast fan and one of my favorite go-tos is Huevos Rancheros. This is packed with shredded beef and green chilis! Omg, wow! Definitely won my heart and made my tummy happy. Bebe had the Cinnamon French Toast with a side of bacon. Holy moly, that ish was good. Nice thick French toast bread and perfect batter mixture. Daaannggg. So good!! Perfect way to start our day of snowboarding!

Okay food...we had the prime rib and fried chicken. We also got the chocolate cake for dessert. Do not recommend the cake...we had to add sugar to it! I've never poured sugar on top of a chocolate cake so that was a first. The prime rib has LOTS of fat. Just warning you. Personally I like the fat, so I was okay with it, but if you don't then stay away from this. About a 4th of it is fat. Fried chicken was pretty good. The skin had a Rosemary flavor that we liked!

  • Jamie K.

Husband got the chicken pot pie and reported that it was delicious. I got the prime rib and it was wonderful. They serve a generous portion of biscuits and muffins to the table complimentary and they were also great. The best part was the service. The guy who seated us was very friendly and went through the restaurant making everyone feel welcomed. We were very glad we drove extra to get to this place.

Best breakfast you can get in Mammoth. The service is friendly and prompt and you won't wait long for your food. As far as food goes, they have amazing fluffy pancakes, great biscuits and really good chicken fried steak. If you're not a big eater, I'd recommend sharing as the portions are well big and you will definitely get what you paid for!

My friends were looking for a decent meal after a long day at the slopes. Unfortunately, this place let us down. This small, homey diner was not suitable for our group of 5 people, and they seemed very overwhelmed by having a full restaurant. The food was fair at best, and the terrible service basically ruined our night. What started as a deceptively long wait turned into a ridiculously long dinner. I was sent in to check the wait, since our previously suggested was too busy. I was told 10-15 minutes, so I called the group in. It was 30-40 minutes, because the hostess couldn't approximate correctly. We were hungry & wouldn't have stayed if we knew. One of our guests had to leave because it took so long. Once we FINALLY got seated, we were basically ignored for the first 15 minutes. The wait staff never took drink orders, and kept apologizing for being behind. It took them this long to even place our orders. Unfortunately, they also weren't paying attention and had just seated a huge group right after us (with zero wait time) and gave them all the attention. Their orders were put in ahead of ours, which resulted in even LONGER wait to get out food. My soup & salad were brought long before anyone's anything, and by the time my food arrived, I wasn't even hungry anymore. Our group had an assortment of items and here's the report: The "Fried chicken" was way too overcooked, and served with spinach that wasn't good either. The gravy was OK. The Burger was large, and average quality. When they served bread rolls to the table, they were cold, which drastically reduced their appeal. The Mac & Cheese had mixed reviews... but supposedly it didn't taste like cheese. Once we had our food, she checked on us 3 times in 20 mins to see if we needed anything. A little too late to save yourself with the service, my dear... This whole ordeal took so long, we ended up scrapping our plans to go out for the night and ended up going home instead. I was super disappointed. :( In my previous review, the only saving grace for this place was the service (on an EMPTY night), but I can see now that it was a mistake.

Are breakfast here for the first time after hearing good things about it. It's got a homey atmosphere like a lot of places up here. I'm a sucker for huevos rancheros so of course that's what I ordered. They have a different take on it, they load it up with machaca making it it really filling. My son had the Stove special with eggs, bacon and French toast. Their French toast is really thick.

Went in for dinner, Friday night. Place was already winding down at around 8 pm. We had some good home style food and the service was really nice. Prices are very reasonable. Both fried chicken and pork chops were on the dry side. Country fried steak was good. Bottom line is that I can warmly recommend it.

Big breakfasts, super friendly staff and a good atmosphere. Traditional diner food. I got a create your own omelette. Eggs and potatoes were a bit on the dry side, but overall was just fine. Definitely a place for locals, which is a great thing as the place has the homey feel that you want out of a small mountain town. Lots of people ordering without the menu.

Highly recommend!! Just gets super crowded in the mornings so either get their real early or wait until like 11-1130am when breakfast crowd dwindles. Next time i'd split up my impatient group if over 7 people. V friendly staff and service great! Ambiance cute and homey. Had the special with French toast, eggs and crispy bacon and good coffee. Excellent! Others had club sandwich, hamburgers v good (and chicken fried steak in the past was excellent). Not too keen on the french dip but everything else v good. Lots of fresh hot fries too! Also bought their peach pie and it was v good. This was our 2nd time coming here. Becoming our annual family eatery. Will come again next year too!

The Stove's a little, conveniently located, loud family-type diner. Pretty good food-wise ... I would go for the savory options as the pancakes weren't very good and super overpriced. The omelette and burrito we got were very tasty and large though! I would come back, just not for the pancakes!

Get the biscuits! Add the whipped butter and raspberry jam provided, and it'll be like dessert. Friendly servers and hosts. Prepare to wait for a table, but well worth it. Yummy traditional breakfast food.

The last couple of times I've gone to Mammoth we stopped at this place for breakfast before we hit the mountain, and let me just say you won't be hungry until dinner because the portions are that big. I've had the french toast here which is amazing and really big, the pancakes are huge as well. The sierra skillet was tasty, but I think I am more of the stove special person myself. My only regret here was ordering a side of pancakes on top of my order because literally I was too full when we got to the mountain. Anyways great place, great people and great food. Will be going back for sure next time I go to Mammoth.

I can't say enough great things about this place. When my friends and I go boarding in Mammoth, we usually make this our go-to breakfast location. I've tried a couple of items on the menu; Chicken friend steak, breakfast burrito, pancakes, & the prime-rib hash.. not all in one sitting of course.. and i've never left dissatisfied. The place is very clean, the staff is super friendly, and the food is delicious. Pricing is pretty average & their menu has all the good things you're little heart desires for breakfast and lunch. I don't recall if they serve dinner but if they do, I'm sure it's just as good as their breakfast/lunch. Next time you're in the area, definitely check this place out.

I'm torn between giving this place 3 stars or 4. My boyfriend and I went here a couple days ago in the middle of the week based on the high yelp reviews. I got the French toast combo, and it was amazing; Probably the best French toast I've ever had. The sausage I got with it was a bit cold and didn't seem completely cooked. My boyfriend got the biscuits and gravy. Unfortunately it was far from good. He said it tastes somewhat like dirt; He wasn't excited by his side of bacon either. Now... The service. It was phenomenal. Which is why I went for the 4 stars. They were incredibly kind and efficient. On top of that, we accidentally left a cell phone at the table and a nice employee ran after us in the parking lot to return it.

Terrible experience! Snotty waitress. We felt totally discriminated against, skinny waitress with long red frizzy hair had a terrible attitude from the get go, seemed totally annoyed by our mere presence, seems to hate her job! Caught her tirade on a smart phone, will post to social media.

This place rules. Great coffee. Food comes quick but you can relax and have a nice leisurely meal. My kids independently called the cinnamon swirl French toast and the pancakes the best ever. Really good service and blast from the past decor. Highly recommended!

This review is for the front desk service, not the food nor the server. We arrived this morning asking for a table. We said we are in a rush and asked if they can accommodate us. The front desk lady said it would be no more than 15 minutes. While waiting we noticed multiple tables open but we weren't offered those tables. We asked if we could place our orders while waiting. We were told "no." We ended up waiting more than the quoted 15 minutes. There was still no table open that we weren't offered. Knowing the entire time that we were in a rush, the hostess offered no solutions. We ended up leaving and going to a place next door called breakfast club. They were quite accommodating. Unfortunately we never got to taste the food or experience the food service but the lack of interest by the hostess in our situation turned us off.

Went there for breakfast, and tried the huevos rancheros, and the french toast. As a Mexican, those huevos rancheros were the best i have ever had. Even better than my grandmas. French toast simply delicious. Sincerely, one of the best breakfast i have had in a long time! But The reason I'm only giving three stars is because the service sucks!!! Our server (female) was not very friendly at all!! First of all after she took our orders and brought us our food, never ever visited our table. When she saw that our plates were empty she brought us our check without saying a word! NEVER asked if we were doing ok, never asked if the food was ok or if we needed anything else, never said "here is your check, whenever you are ready." I was very pissed when she brought the check. So i asked her, "what is this?" She responded "the check" i smiling told her that i would like to order something else. I was of course expecting an apology but never got it. We gave her a second chance but totally failed!! Again.. Never said how was our food or anything!! I would have understand if she was busy but come on!! Not even a smile? This girl definitely needs improvements. Great breakfast, horrible service!

The Stove is really cozy and Country like. The service is great. The muffins taste awesome and I loved the creamy, fluffy butter they served with it. For an entree, I ordered the meatloaf with the sweet potatoes and that tasted excellent. Overall, I had a great experience.

I hadn't been to the stove before but everybody tells me its good so I decided to stop in and give it a try. They exceeded my expectations! Scrambled eggs were delicious and the bacon was nice and juicy! The breakfast sausage was pretty good too. If breakfast isn't your favorite meal, you can order things for breakfast off of their lunch menu. They have burgers, fries, soups, pastas, and more! Service was excellent-fast and efficient. Very friendly servers who are super helpful. This place is located on Old Mammoth Rd near Mammoth Outdoor Sports so its in a pretty convenient location in the middle of town! I would like to thank The Stove for the excellent breakfast and great service! Keep up the good work guys! I will definately stop here again the next time I'm in the Mammoth Lakes area. Highly reccomend this place!!

My wife and kids really, really enjoyed the food and service here. We had dinner. We had the meatloaf, chicken pot pie, prime rib and French dip. I had the prime rib and it was great. Everyone else loved their food also. Prime rib was juicy and delicious and a great deal for the price. Sides and salad were excellent also. Service was excellent. If you want an upscale place with pretty food don't come here. If you want a great tasting, home cooked meal with good service in a casual atmosphere, give it a try.

"Can we go to The Stove for breakfast tomorrow and Monday? It's my favorite breakfast place evarrrr." My boyfriend doesn't really ask for much so I was happy to oblige. My initial answer was, "How good can it be? It's hard to mess up breakfast." Our first visit was a rushed one since we didn't want to be late to our snowmobiling appointment. There was zero wait and the awesome wait staff had us in and out in under 30! The second day was the Monday of a holiday weekend when everyone was leaving Mammoth. The wait was 30 and they were able to seat our party of 8 side by side with separate checks. My boyfriend ordered for us on both days. I like savory so my fave was the avocado omelette, which was filled with yummy bacon. The next day they were out of prime rib hash (which I pointed out is leftover prime rib from the nightly dinner special) so we had the Texas omelette, which is filled with chili. Both days, he ordered the strawberry waffle & convinced our friend, Don A. to order it too. Don proclaimed to Facebook that this was the best strawberry waffle he has ever had. The waffle is crispy and topped with a heavy portion of strawberries. I think this is his favorite place because my snowboarder loves Mammoth but the service is wonderful and the food is pretty solid too.

The best breakfast place in town, and not too much more than the competition. The french toast is amazing, and filling for $8 without getting the combo option. Bacon was meh, a little thin and overcooked, coffee is sort of generic diner coffee, but overall it's really good breakfast.

We ate there 10/4,. The Stove Restaurant is a warm, cozy, friendly place to get some good eats. I got the pot pie, which had an extremely flaky crust with a watery meat and vegetable stock (not very hearty), but actually I wasn't very hungry so it was fine for me. I've been to this restaurant before and liked my menu choices better. P.S. Watch-out for the first step.

A really awesome diner in town. As per all my fellow Yelpers' advice, the hubby and I went for the prime rib special. The diner is small and cozy with really nice staff. My only gripe here is that the seats/booths are a little uncomfortable because the wood is a hard and cold. Really though, the food and staff make up for it. As far as the food goes, $14.95 for a huge prime rib, baked potato and soup? I'LL TAKE IT! The prime rib wasn't the fanciest, but very tasty. The portions were HUGE and the staff was all really friendly, quick & helpful. Pros: -HUGE FOOD PORTIONS -GREAT dinner specials -Nice staff Cons: -Booths/Chairs are uncomfortable Tips: -Stop in before 6PM to beat the crowds and get a good dinner special -Head up Old Mammoth Rd. and you'll find it just after the police station

Funky little cafe that is very retro - The Stove is a funky little restaurant located in an old house in Mammoth Lakes. The first thing you see when you enter the business is a cool, vintage cast-iron stove and a 'pie safe' (an old glass-front cabinet used to display homemade pies - there were a bunch of delicious pies on display when we visited The Stove). The dining area is furnished with many booths and tables and the decorations around the establishment add a lot to the ambience of this cozy restaurant.

Came here for lunch but had breakfast because it sounded so good. That, ultimately, was a good decision because the prime rib hash with eggs was amazing! Great service. Food came out quickly. Prices are reasonable. Quiet little joint that I will come to again with every Mammoth visit.

Super fast, super friendly service! We arrived for breakfast and although they were slammed we got a table right away and our food came just as fast! Great local spot!

I judge all country breakfasts by the Chicken Fried Steak and this was one of the best! Crispy steak and yummy gravy. The French toast was addictive. Just the right balance of sweet and savory. My son had the Belgian Waffle with strawberries and fresh whipped cream. This place was a perfect way to end our first trip to Mammoth. We'll definitely be back.

Amazing prime rib dinner!!!! I've heard the breakfast is great here so we will have to try it as well! The owner was so nice and friendly and even spoke to us at our table and gave us some local pointers. Loved it and will certainly be back!!!! Thank you John!

We ALWAYS go to the The Stove for breakfast when we are in Mammoth. Last week Wednesday, I ordered the country fried steak. The first think I saw was a long black hair in my hash brown potatoes. I picked it out and ate my breakfast.....it could have been worse. My son ordered the prime rib hash. We took home part of the hash. I prepared the leftover hash into a panini. When I took my second bite into the panini, I had to pull a long black hair out of my mouth. It's one thing to pick a hair from your food......but It's disgusting to pull a hair out of your mouth!!! Two hairs in two different dishes. Someone in the kitchen needs to wear a hairnet!!!

After a day of skiing, nothing was more gratifying than a cup of coffee and a huge well made breakfast. We enjoyed a Sierra skillet and buttermilks pancake. The skillet was composed of eggs, ham, thinly sliced potatoes, cheese, and bell pepper. It was huge and came with toast or biscuits. So glad we got the biscuits because they were incredibly fluffy and with just the right amount of savoriness. I ordered only one pancake thinking it would be about 6 in in diameter but it turned out to be almost twice that size. It wAs almost as fluffy as the biscuit and wonderfully tasty with the whipped butter.

Breakfast is 5 star Delicious! The other food is ok. I also think that quality of the food in general has gone down. But, I'm not sure about that. It could be a case of everything was better back in the day..... Nothing starts a day of snowboarding or the start of a long backpacking trip like a substantial breakfast from the Stove.

awesome lunch for me and "the best pancakes I've ever had" for my buddy. This place is the cat's pajamas!

I don't understand why this place has 4 STARS. I'm guessing it's that good compared to all the other restaurants in the area... which doesn't say much. Or maybe I'm just being harsh since I'm used to eating in San Diego and Los Angeles, where you can find some of the best brunches in the US. I ordered the prime rib hash and my boyfriend ordered the chicken fried steak. The prime rib hash looked like they shredded the leftovers from people's prime rib and mixed a few things in it and served it to me. It didn't look good to eat at all, and as far as taste goes, it wasn't that great. The chicken fried steak was much better tasting. SO i suggest you order that. Nothing else amazed me either; the cornbread and the biscuits, were just OK. The service.... definitely not pleased. The server filled my glass of water and spilled it all over the table. He saw it and didn't say sorry or wipe it up. The prices weren't bad for brunch, but it was definitely pricey for what you get. If 2 STARS equals, "Meh. I've experienced better," Then this place definitely deserves 2 STARS.

We ate dinner here on Aug 21st. The waitress was very rushed and not friendly. she would not wait for an answer or cared about our food and service. She put down a basket of muffins in a rush and said they were peanut and zucchini, and rushed off. We got her attention and then asked if they were peanut, and told her our son is allergic. She said he could eat the other bread, which he can't do if it is touching the peanut muffin. She did not offer to bring anything else, or take away the muffins. The food did come out fast, maybe too fast. We were not done with salads before the meal showed up. I had asked if the crispy potatoes were crispy and she said yes. The potatoes were not crispy, just overcooked and tasted old. The prime rib was good, but half of the piece was the fat, which they could have cut off, as it did not fool me to think the piece was bigger with that on it. My son said the ketchup tasted funny so we asked for another bottle. Big difference, as the other one was runny and tasted bad. The waitress didn't care or ask what was wrong with it and left the bad bottle on the table. Hope the next person didnt have to taste it too. The other staff was nice and friendly, but the waitress was so unfriendly and inattentive. My 10 y/o learned what bad service means.

Wonderful breakfast stop before kayaking. I went light and ordered the Natural (fresh fruit, greek yogurt, granola) and the granola was some of the best I've tried. Service was relatively quick and the staff was friendly -- our server gave us some helpful tips for sightseeing and adventure!

We came here based off on the 4 star review on yelp. Wow. 5 stars. Breakfast food is delicious. My 10 year old niece was very impressed with the potatoes - she loved them! There was a wait (it is Christmas Eve)... But it was quick. Service is excellent even with a packed place. We will be back! :)

Everybody loves The Stove for breakfast, but their dinners shouldn't be overlooked. Yummy tender prime rib with two sides is under $20.00 and perfectly grilled salmon with two sides is under $16.00. Beat that anyplace, I dare you! Great service, great American food like fried chicken and meatloaf, and homemade pies make The Stove a regular on our dinner menu!

Where do I start?! This place is exactly what I was looking for! BEST CHICKEN FRIED STEAK I HAVE EVER HAD! EVER!! It's made with REAL steak! Perfectly crisped and tons of gravy. The food is so fresh and amazing. The atmosphere is very quaint & homey, I felt at ease. The customer service is amazing! Everyone is so nice! The food came really fast, and they made sure we were happy with our meal. This place put a huge smile on my face and in my tummy! Thank you to the chef, the staff, and our awesome server, Brandon!

A guy at work told me to try this place and said to try the French toast, said it was the best he's ever had. He wasn't kidding, It is hands down the best French toast In the WORLD! Five stars don't do this place justice. I wish I could do six. Me and my girlfriend can't break away from the French toast to try anything else. I hear there are a lot of great breakfast dishes. But I doubt we will ever order anything else.

Love The Stove for breakfast- I bet dinner would be just as good. This place is always busy and they do not take reservations. It gets a little crazy in the morning so get there before you are starving. I had the Huevos Rancheros which were amazing and the BF had the ham steak and eggs, also amazing. The portions are huge and everything is homemade and fresh. I love that they serve the drinks in mason jars- so cute. They do not have alcohol here even though they have a Bud light sign in the window. =( This place is great for everyone and they have a ton of choices on the menu. If you are visiting Mammoth you must try this place. It is like a Mammoth staple. Be sure to get your Stove coffee mug on the way out for $6.00.

The food was mediocre, nothing to write home about. Food came out fast, and the server was rude. I asked her, after we had waited for 10 + min, for our check she looked at me with disgust. I understand they are busy-it's a tourist town, but come-on !!

This restaurant had a wide variety of food to choose from. I chose the country stove steak and it was deliciously crispy and soft in the middle, with a side of Nancy's baked beans with brown sugar and bacon. Very delicious, not too sweet and a perfect amount. I also had the side of Mashed Potatoes with gravy. The gravy is the white creamy gravy or you can switch to the brown gravy. It was perfectly mashed and also delicious as heck! Thumbs up to this restaurant!!

One of the best restaurants for a hearty breakfast in town. They have all of the usual egg dishes and pancakes plus country items like biscuits and gravy. And the prices are reasonable.

3.5 stars Since my first review I've been here several times and my experience has been different every time. One time it was pretty horrible, they ran out of a lot of food when we didn't eat there late. The food was off that time too. But to make up for it, they served us a complimentary slice of blueberry pie that was just amazing. The last time, we got there pretty early around 6:30PM and I finally tried their prime rib. The cut was pretty good and it came with a choice of potatoes and steamed veggies. They also had cornbread but it was a little dry. I'll probably stop coming here for dinner but I still enjoy their breakfast menu a lot. Maybe if I'm craving pie I'll pick up a slice when I'm in Mammoth.

Pros: fast, friendly service lots of choices delicious foods Con: HUGE portions My parents used to come here almost 30 years ago when they visited Mammoth Lakes. We returned for breakfast on our last day in the area. All six of us ordered something different. All six of us LOVED what we ordered. The only person who could finish their meal was my dad. I HIGHLY recommend this place...especially if you're good at sharing!

Awful. And this place used to be terrific. We've been coming here for over 25 years, but there must have been a change in ownership. We were puzzled to see that the place was empty tonight at the height of the dinner hour and now we get it. Ordered the hot turkey sandwich and it was really bad. The meal was incredibly heavy and I could have seasoned a 5 pound bag of chips with all the salt on that plate. The "cream of mushroom" soup was hideous. It was heavy with corn starch and there was not a single piece of mushroom that was longer than 1 millimeter. It completely lacked seasoning and tasted like bad factory soup.... or maybe made in a nearby prison??? Sad to say we will never go back.

Been coming to Mammoth for over 20 years and always frequent the Stove for breakfast. Their "Stove Special" is great -- eggs, choice of bacon, sausage, ham, or turkey patty (I love the thick bacon), and pancakes or waffle (the pancakes rock). Coffee is good and servers are friendly. For lunch, try the tuna melt or Chicago club sandwich with fries (both good). It's rustic decor with wood booths inside. The Stove rarely disappoints, so highly recommended. They also own Giovanni's Restaurant (by Vons), which I also recommend for good pizza.

We've eaten at this place twice in our two trips to Mammoth and we love it! It's a very down home, basic, no frills dining spot with VERY reasonable prices. The decor is really entertaining to us - old plates on the walls and bridles and farm equipment that to us urban dwellers reminds us of torture equipment, LOL. We went for breakfast the first time and they have all the basics, plus things like biscuits and gravy (fresh, homemade biscuits!) and Belgian waffles. Prices are $10 or less per person for breakfast. Dinner was equally delicious. We were all VERY impressed by the size and freshness of the salads! They are just your basic, romaine, carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, croutons...but no wilty leaves, no brown edges...everything was super crisp and delicious. Everyone kept commenting on it while chowing down. We ordered the prime rib (perfect temp, great portion!), fried chicken (delicious crispy breading), and cheeseburger (HUGE portion of bacon). The only bummer part was the prime rib didn't come with au jus on the side (despite what the menu said), we had to ask for it. It did come with grated horseradish and a horseradish cream sauce which was really tasty. The sides were also really memorable - a non greasy mac and cheese with buttered bread crumbs, a yummy baked sweet potato casserole (a whole soup cup portion!), and baked beans with bacon (my BF ate it so fast I didn't even get a taste). We got the bread pudding with whiskey sauce to go, and had it later in the evening at our hotel room. AMAZING and totally a huge portion. My friend and I ate some and then she packaged the rest and brought it back to LA! One suggestion I would give to the restaurant is to provide something unique with the complimentary biscuits, such as honey butter or apple butter, or local preserves, maybe? That would just up the level a bit. All in all, a great value for the money. We would definitely come back.

Prime rib is juicy and tender! No wonder there are so many good reviews on it! AND they serve fresh baked muffins and cornbread. Cornbread was a little dry, but butter helped. Extremely friendly service - our waitress was super nice and very attentive! It was so good we went back again for breakfast. And, since it was a weekday, they know we needed quick service so we could get to work. Coffee came out immediately and the orders were up promptly too. I had the Sierra Sunrise, which I ordered because I liked the story on the menu...that the dish happened by accident. :) It's a skillet with diced potatoes, bell peppers, onions, ham, cheese, everything, and then topped with eggs cooked to the style of your choice. Delish! This place also has fresh baked pies that look good but I was always so obesely full that I never had the chance to try one. Definitely recommend this place as a good local restaurant to try!

Thanks yelpers, for without you, we would not have had breakfast at The Stove! Went to The Stove to finish out an amazing weekend of snowboarding and am so glad we did. This place is a cute, homey brunch spot with fresh ingredients and delicious food. While I read many a review that this place is worth the wait, we lucked out and got a table right away (not easy to do with 7 people). Service was excellent, prices were decent, portions were plentiful (next time I would consider sharing) and the food was great. I am definetely a fan! #Yelp 100 Challenge: Review #3/100 :)

We have been in Mammoth for a few days now. Had to get away from the tourist section of town. The food was like homemade. Oh my gosh! Everything was so good! The place was packed. We waited about 15 minutes before anyone said anything to us and were getting to leave. But the food made it up. Would gave gave the a 5 star if we didn't have to wait so long of being in silence, lol. The owner was nice!

We got French toast and a buttermilk pancake stove special. The French toast was great though it might be sweet for some. The pancakes were fluffy with crispy edges and weren't too sweet. The bacon was great and the eggs were cooked just how I like it. The service was great and I was surprised how quickly our food came out.

I went here several times for dinner 3 years ago for the dinner special which I thought was pretty good. Service back then was better from what I recall and it was definitely busy. On this day, I wanted to try breakfast since some of the locals were raving about it. When I arrived and entered, I was the only other person there besides a small family since it was early. It took a few minutes before someone realized I was there to be seated. The restaurant has been open already for an hour and it too way too long for me to get service after reviewing the menu. I'm just 1 person not requiring 10-15 minutes to figure out what kind of egg I'd like to order especially if I'm the only other person there besides a small family of 4. I could hear the waitress talking on and on with the cooks. I was almost ready to leave and spend my $ elsewhere when the cook caught me leaning over to catch his attention..sort of a hint to tell the waitress to get her rear end out of the kitchen. I'm sticking it out to see how the rest of my service goes. If it's bad, it will reflect in the tip. After breakfast: Okay..so after the waitress came out, service improved. The potatoes that came with the breakfast were overcooked and burnt. Now I like crispy but that was like being served burnt wood chips. The omlette was okay. Nothing to brag about. Coffee didn't taste good. Whatever blend they use should be changed. I'll know to skip it next time. First impressions are important. Keeping people waiting when there's no reason for it is disappointing. I won't recommend breakfast or at least tell people to get there mid morning when the servers are brighter eyed and bushy tailed. I'll have to try their dinner and see if the service has declined there as well. If that's not good, I'll never go back.

Food is good. Portions are big. Long wait. Slow service. Questionable cleanliness. Country fried steak is good. What they called a biscuit was more like a hybrid biscuit/dinner roll.

Came here with the family and enjoyed a nice, relaxing dinner. The place feels very homely and the service was great! If your craving a late night meal then this place is a great spot. They have everything from breakfast food served at dinner time to prime rib and bbq ribs! I ordered the prime rib hash and eggs and a side order of clam chowder. They normally only do the prime rib hash n eggs for breakfast, but they made an exception for us, so thank u! The meat was tender and good flavoring. On top of the beef was two eggs and holding all together was a bed of grilled potatoes. All together I would probably give the meal a 3.5 star, but the reason I actually have this place a 4 star was because I tired my sisters chicken fried steak! Now that meal was great! Flaky and garlicky crust, moist meet and flavorful graving to finish it all off! Next time I would def order that! All in all, great meal and great service! So a solid 4 star!

While visiting Mammoth my husband and I were looking for a good breakfast place. We decided to give The Stove a try. It is a very quaint and cottage type restaurant. The staff was very friendly and made us feel very welcome. There were so many good choices on the menu we couldn't decide. I got the Sierra sunrise skillet and my husband got the stove special. Both were huge portions and it tasted delicious! We want to go there again for lunch! Thank you The Stove for a great experience!

Used to be fine, but as a former regular (as in, three times a week regular!), I can't recommend it any more for repeat business. The food is fine - basic American breakfast/lunch/dinner type food. But their prices have gone up, the portion sizes have gone down (they used to be HUGE, but now are just standard size), and the deal-breaker for me was that they no longer split the bill as a convenience for us regulars. They put up big signs saying they won't do it (no idea why), so I just stopped taking my guys there. I work in Mammoth, just a couple of blocks away, and I would take my staff for breakfast several times a week for coffee & breakfast. We would always split the bill three ways after eating, and it was never a problem. I guess they don't do that any more, and since we're totally ok with just splitting a bill evenly by however many I take (always 3 or 4), it's disappointing. We go to the Good Life Cafe now, and they have NEVER had a problem with splitting the bill. Good food, friendly staff, and easy for us regulars to deal with. Hope that helps!

If you traveled 6 hours to get to Mammoth and were very hungry, you might think "The Stove". That would be your biggest mistake. We had the pot pie, or what seemed like one. The crust was as thin as a Spring ice rink and the vegetables were lacking. Yes, there was plenty of chicken but in this case it might as well been our 2nd soup as it sat. Is barely above luke warm considered 'cooked'? Other mentionables: Dried out corn bread - sent back for muffins Microwaved muffins - to replace the corn bread Bland uneventful corn chowder Atmosphere: 2 has not changed in 20 years Service: 4 adequate Food: 1 would have preferred take out rom Vons Recommendation: Whiskey Creek happy hour in the bar.

It might have been the ten mile run that I just finished, or that was one amazing breakfast! The food was cooked well, although my French toast was not completely done and my eggs were not exactly as I had ordered but you can't beat the service, I had someone at my table constantly and was well served on. I would come back and recommend it to anyone passing through mammoth, especially for the price.

After 5 days of slaying unbelievably epic powder at Mammoth mountain enjoying some beautiful blue bird days our party was extremely exhausted and drained of health and mana. We were looking for a place to replenish ourselves and enjoy a large hearty breakfast before our long journey home to San Francisco. Our gracious host Wendy the experimentalist recommended the Stove to us and boy did it slam our collective breakfast cherries out of the park. We arrived around midday on a warm March Saturday. The young hostess seated us promptly in the lively dining room. The room was warm and inviting and we sat in a wooden booth towards the middle of the room. We observed large steaming plates of food in every direction and this made our decisions extremely difficult. Our waitress immediately aggroed us and indulged us with coffee and ice water. We decided on the breakfast burrito, Chicken Fried Steak (CFS for short), and the prime rib hash. We also had sides of sourdough and biscuits. The burrito was massive, smothered with cheese, and piping hot. It had a delicious filling of eggs, prime rib, peppers, onions black beans and bonus avocado wrapped in a flour tortilla with some primrose salsa on the side. The CFS should really not be considered breakfast. It was too decadent covered in pan gravy and breaded to perfection. The prime rib hash was simple and came with a mondo serving of meat over a bed of Stove potatoes with two fried eggs on top. The perfect bite of potato hash and over easy yolk was had many times. With our health and mana bars topped off, our party conquered the breakfast and was intrigued by the assortment of pies available for a steal and summoned the blueberry pie raid boss as a victory lap. Overall the food was most excellent, service was exceptional and our party would definitely run another instance of the Stove restaurant the next time we are in town.

The breakfast was very good, much better than traditional chain coffee shops offer. The service was quick and friendly. I read a few reviews about slow service and I have to say that certainly wasn't our experience. One thing: they don't serve traditional hash browns, which for me, is a bummer. However, the home fries were better than average. It's nice to have good toast with good quality jam in a glass serving container with a spoon. Eggs were cooked correctly and the coffee was pretty good.

I've been looking forward to having breakfast at the stove for 10 months now, I love their hot cakes but not for $4.75 per hot cake and I certainly did not like having to pay $4.75 per glass of o.j.. The pancake recipe has changed since last year from good to worse. I took a friend with me and the two standard breakfasts added up to $42 and of course we had go give a tip which was $6 so overall our mediocre breakfast cost $48! My friend commented saying that the bread was just like wonderbread. Very unfortunate if you ask me. The bread used to be to die for but now, I honestly feel as though the bread is taken from store and that was beyond disappointing. I was reading through some reviews and the most common comment was about the service. Now, with our experience the service was fine... I'm saying this probably cause we were the only two in the restaurant at around 6:00 in the morning. I am genuinely disappointed and hope that they revamp their food, their service and especially their prices as soon as possible.

We had just pulled into town from a three hour drive and this was a great find. Neat small town feel restaurant. Great service and great food. I had a good burger with a choice of fries or salad. I went with the salad and it was huge and great! My wife had the Tuna Melt, she said it was the best she has ever had. The great thing was the prices were very good as well. Can't wait to go back...

Food was so, so good! I am not a breakfast person, so I got a sandwich (which was really good), but everyone else in my party was breakfast fanatics. One of my friends said they were the best biscuits and gravy that he had ever had, and the omelet was amazing. Service was a little slow, but it was saturday morning and the place was PACKED, so we were willing to overlook that seeing as the food was to die for!

The name The Stove accurately reflects the character of the restaurant-- warm and homey with good home cooked food for the yelp two dollar rated prices. The waitress we had was one of the friendliest I have experienced. The service was... "I see you didn't eat much of your side dish...would you like a different one instead?... well if you want your prime rib rare, we can still just cook it a little more if you find it too rare." My French dip sandwich was one of the best I have had. The food is not four dollar quality, but is very good two dollar; and again, if you get our waitress a five star dining experience.

A fantastic dinner after a long day on the trail! The three of us enjoyed the friendly service and home style cooking. The starter biscuits were fantastic, and the salad was filling. My grandfather got the chicken fried steak which he declared was the best in Inyo county. My grandmother had the delicious prime rid that is a MUST TRY. I had the pot pie however, which was not that good at all. It lacked any flavor and I was disappointed because everything else was fantastic. A must try for the busy hiker.

If your up in Mammoth and not staying at a cabin to make your meal well this is a place to go for dinner. This is my first time going out for dinner in Mammoth cause I usually stay in a cabin which means we make our meals. This place is very home comfy feeling. Their meals came in a pretty good size, like Claim Jumpers plates =) the only thing was the cornbread, it was hard and dry. I would come back here if I'm not renting a cabin. You get seated right away if it's not busy. The bus boy brings out the water and cornbread, unfortunately our cornbread was a bit dry and stale. The portion of our plates was huge that we had to pack it up and take it back to the room. The meal was pretty decent.

If you have a hankering for some simple, no frills comfort food in a resort town, this place is it. Great breakfast menu and reasonable prices compared to the others in the area. Too bad dinner only served Thursday-Sunday in the summer. The fried chicken, meatloaf and pork chops keep calling my name!

Great food and fast friendly service. My family loaded up at The Stove last week before hiking to Gem Lake. So much food (which was all great). We didn't need lunch. I had French Toast and it was by far the best I have ever had. Wifey had Belgian waffle with similar comments. My twins had omelets (veggie and western) and also loved their meals. A word of warning, this is not a place conducive to a lingering meal, at least when we were there. Food came fast as did the bill and a few subtle hints to vacate the table. However when we arrived the place was packed and yet it only took 10 minutes for a table to open. I actually prefer this approach and frankly we had plans for the day that didn't include hanging out in a restaurant anyway. Did want to mention though.

Breakfast is probably the best meal to have at this joint, dinner was ok... Waiter somewhat forgetful/slow but looked frazzled and overworked. Food isn't anything special, tho you do get large portions (probably 3 meals' worth). They have giant booths that'll fit 8, in case you come with a crowd.

Good food and a friendly staff. It has a very welcoming country feel. I had breakfast while wifey and the little one had lunch. I loved the huge pancakes and the little one enjoyed her cheeseburger and fries. The coffee made a difference in my morning/early afternoon. Would definitely recommend this place to friends and come back.

Never come to mammoth without eating here. Going 17 years strong. Food is really good, pie is amazing. Love the vintage atmosphere. Breakfast highly recommended . Yum.

Absolutely delicious!! Small place but didn't wait too long, even with a party of 6. Staff was efficient and friendly even though they were busy. The food was so good! I had a veggie omelet which can sometimes be bland and I'm not usually a fan of onion with eggs but this was seasoned so well and the onions grilled just right and thy didn't skimp on the veggies! My son had French toast which I'm not usually a fan but it was soo good! Everyone in my family enjoyed what they ordered and said even the bacon tasted better than most. Definitely try this place for a hearty delicious breakfast

This place was just wonderful! The service was beyond excellent; all the employees were very friendly and served us very nicely. The place looks old and beat down, but gave a very cozy and homey atmosphere. I ordered the prime rib with mashed potatoes. The prime rib was perfectly cooked and was a very large portion. It was very juicy and came with a creamy horseradish sauce on the side. The mashed potatoes were extremely smooth (maybe a bit too smooth for my liking) and were very buttery, but that made it ever so tasty. Everything was marvelous, an overall great experience. -- Great, friendly service -- Delicious food -- Warm and comforting environment

Summary: If you only have a choice between here and Roberto's pick here; otherwise you might be happier finding somewhere else to eat. The Good: Huge portions Friendly staff The Meh: Very dated decor Interior a little dark The Bad: MIL and I both ordered the "delicious" fried chicken plate. What we got was chicken that had been maybe dipped in either egg or buttermilk and then lightly sprinkled with some cornmeal and fried. It was the strangest color, almost black. I ate a drumstick that was greasy and tasteless, and she ate a breast piece that was super dry and tasteless. Not delicious. The honey had spaghetti, said it was not good. FIL had prime rib, said it was overcooked. Dry, crumbly cornbread 4 for 4? Not coming back.

If you are going to get breakfast in mammoth, you had best go to the stove. you won't regret it. Be aware though, this place can get pretty crowded. It was 12 in the afternoon on a sunday and we still had about a 15-30 minute wait. Pancakes and things run from about $ 6 to 10. Other breakfast items or an omelette will cost you about $8 to 12. This is a delightful little restaurant with a good old fashion country breakfast just like your grandmother would make (assuming she is from the good old country). Don't miss the French toast or their breakfast potatoes. Both were scrumptious. The mimosas also are crisp and refreshing. the staff is friendly and good at dealing with large groups.

Great portions and nice options. Went on a slow day, seated with no wait. Great service and quaint style. Will return next visit. I had the western omelet and it was huge and lots of fresh veggies.

The food was very good. I had the chicken breast sandwich which was pretty good.y friend got a traditional breakfast (eggs bacon and French toast) which she loved. They offer gluten free bread for the sandwiches, but cannot make French toast with it. It is a very busy place, so if you go on a weekend morning expect having to wait at least 15-20 minutes.

Appalled by the service! It is my husbands birthday today so we went here because we heard it had great breakfast. We show up get told it will be a 20 minute wait. No big deal. Get seated 20 minutes later at a dirty table with 4 glasses of water still one the table... 2 full and 2 half full. The hostess takes two of them away. Not 30 seconds after we are seated we are asked if we are ready to order . I ask if he can clean our table first and he looks at me with attitude. He wipes our table but does not take the glasses and I asked him to please clear the table. He said we always have water ready for the next table. Two half full glasses of water no ice and condensation on the table does not look like two fresh glasses lol so he takes them and slams two "fresh" glasses down and said to ease your mind and left. Didn't ask for our drink order just left two half full glasses of water. My husband and I were so disgusted at how we just got treated we left. Can't comment on the food but who cares if you are treated like Garbage. We will never try this place again. We went to the breakfast club and the food was great and the service was even better :)

Went to The Stove on Father's Day this year. It's a quaint little place with a country feel. Incredibly homey. We didn't have a large group but the hostess Emily was so nice and got us in fairly quickly despite their Sunday morning/Father's Day rush. Our server Kai was extremely friendly as well and did a good job checking in with us. The food came out in good time, there were employees with coffee and water going around the restaurant, and the owner (I think) even came over to our table to say hello. Overall, it was an enjoyable experience. Will definitely go back the next time I visit Mammoth. Oh, and I recommend the French toast. You'd be crazy not to order it.

OMG! the French Toast. If you follow any of my reviews I am a bread nut and a french toast freak and this place didn't disappoint. I can't wait to go back and pig our on more French Toast. My b/f loved his eggs each day and looking around at the other food I must admit I was tempted. I almost forgot I was a vegetarian while I was there. Breakfast here is a must!!! Well worth any wait.

Yummy; I had the Veggie Omelet with the biscuits. Service was good; I was greeted as soon as I walked in and was seated immediately. It had a nice casual vibe too. I'll definitely be back.

Overpriced with limited selection and unfriendly staff sums it up. Although the food is decent. I've been to the stove a number of times (always with a group of friends as I would not choose to go here) I get that groups can suck for waitresses, especially a group of young adults, but really, do you have to look and act so pissed at us before you even see the tip?? One waitress wouldn't add a chair to the end of our booth or let us spread onto a booth and table, I remember being so crammed up and pissed off that the food quality really didn't affect my experience, it just plain sucked. Honestly, with all the other amazing breakfast choices in Mammoth, I would skip this place completely. Go to Good Life or Breakfast Club, they're friendlier, more attentive, more accommodating, and have better food with bigger selections. I've never had dinner here because I didn't want to experience the same disappointment with a bigger price tag.

After seeing the reviews I had high hopes for breakfast here. But I was very disappointed. The service was HORRIBLE. When there creamer was empty and we asked for more we got an attitude that there is a cream at the end of the table. It was EMPTY!! That's why we asked for cream and besides who brings coffee without cream? Then the manager completely mixed up our bill with the other family we were with so we paid twice as much. We only saw our waitress when we placed our order and never again. The food was not great. We've had much better food elsewhere. The pancake sandwich is terrible. It is not even a sandwich.

I went to the Stove because mostly it has great reviews on Yelp and is conveniently located close to the hotel I stayed at. Perhaps breakfast is good and I am sad to say that I was looking forward to going back there for breakfast the next day, but now I will not due to poor service. The waiter that took my order was in a hurry and I barely managed to get a word in before he grabbed the menu out of my hands and hurried off. Mind you, the restaurant was not completely full, with a few empty tables remaining. To my delight the food came quickly. I ordered a chicken pot pie, which turned out to be rather mediocre, Ive had better. It was mostly sauce with really tough chewy pieces of chicken and very few vegetables. Its the crust that confused me. It was not your typical crunchy dome of dough baked on over the bowl. Instead, it was a thick, hard round crust that was floating in the sauce and was very hard to eat. But the food was the least of my worries, its the service that sucked. I was not even half way finished when my meal, when the waiter ran by and just dropped the check on the table. He did not ask me if I was done with my meal or if I wanted anything else, and again, I was half way through my "pot pie". Then immediately after that the bus boy came and attempted to take my plate! When I asked the waiter why he gave me the check before I was finished with my food, he said: "You know, just to hurry!" to which I told him he was in too much of a hurry. I was looking forward to having some pie for dessert after dinner, but didn't get a chance, since they just wanted to get me out of there as quickly as possible! What a disappointment!

We went here on our last Mammoth Outing. I tried the prime rib due to the great reviews on yelp. It did not disappoint. The sweet potato side was my favorite though. The mac and cheese was decent, just needed a bit more flavor. I tried a little of my boyfriend's fried chicken and pancake and I gotta say I chose the better dish.

Drove 18 miles from June Lake, and it was well worth it. Fast friendly service. Fresh delicious food. Generous portions. Had an omelet, every ingredient tasted farm-fresh. Clean fresh-smelling restrooms. Plenty of parking (Los Angeles people appreciate that) I will definitely come back.

As a first-time visitor to Mammoth, I am stoked that I found The Stove. They were crammed on Friday at 10:30AM. One table open. We got it but I was worried that service would be slow. Boy, was I wrong! Attentive service, friendly, efficient. Ordered an omelet and it was outstanding as were the potatoes and even the toast was super. Great service. Outstanding food. What's not to like? We'll be back anytime we're in Mammoth.

LOVE this place. We always come here for brunch when we are in town. My favorite is the Prime Rib Hash. There was one time when I came here and was SO SAD they did not have prime rib hash that morning :( I ordered this berry/granola/yogurt dish and it was fantastic. HUGE portions, friendly staff, reasonable prices.

my family and i have been coming here ever since I was 5 and they never fail to satisfy. The servers are really polite and friendly, the food comes out fast, and the restaurant has a very homey feel that i love. The food is great too, and they bring out complimentary muffins & biscuits regardless of what you order (both of which are amazing and home made). the only negative about this place is that they're starting to raise the prices :( other than that, this is the perfect place to bring your family for a nice, home cooked meal!

Went to The Stove for breakfast this morning after trying a couple of other breakfast places in town and I think we've finally found our favorite. The place was packed at around 10am on a Thursday morning... a good sign. I had the Stove Special, with two eggs, two sausage, and two pancakes. I'm very picky about my eggs but they delivered perfectly cooked eggs. I was very happy. The sausage was big, juicy and delicious. The pancakes were huge and fluffy....I couldn't finish it all. Mom enjoyed the breakfast special Strawberry Waffle. It came smothered in strawberries and piled high with whipped cream. The service was friendly and fast and we felt well taken care of. They came by to refill drinks often. We will definitely be returning for breakfast and would like to give it a try for lunch and dinner too!

I love this place! Normally I like having "breakfast for dinner", but i couldnt pass up trying the famous Stove breakfast! Our last day in Mammoth we decided to come here for a late breakfast before going to the Coach outlet. The parking lot is tiny and gets filled up pretty fast on the weekends. Lucky for us there were a couple of cars pulling out of parking spaces. Walking into the Stove, we were greeted by the overwhelmed host/cashier. He took our friends name and said it should be about 15minutes. Word the wise, do not over dress to come here; they crank the heater up high and you will be roasting in no time! It was not quite 15mintues when our name was called. The host took us to an oversized booth in the mid-section of the place. I did not realize how small this restaurant really was. But I loved how cozy and the down-home feeling it gave me. Their menu had a good selection of breakfast items. Just had trouble trying to figure out what I wanted. Our waiter was nice and was able to get our order correct the first time even though it seemed like his brain was going a zillion times faster than he was! When it came down to it, we all ordered: Eggs, Bacon, and either pancakes, waffles or French toast (btw the French toast was delish! if I could I would have stolen Minh's but feared that hungry "don't even think about it" look in his eye I decided not too). Their portions were just right, the pancakes, waffles and French toast were larger than life! I could not totally finish my pancakes and had to tap out after eating half of them! The bacon was crispy, the eggs were not over cooked, they were served fluffy, and yellow just the way I like them! Prices are not bad either you get what you pay for! Word to the wise if you do not know already. The hallway leading to the restroom is urber squishy and small. Make sure when you open the door you do it slowly otherwise, you will knock someone out! Even though this place is busy, the service is pretty darn good! I think the Stove has made a breakfast fan out of me!

Don't care about the calorie count? This is the place for home style comfort food. Chicken fried steak anyone? Oh yeah and the pot roast too. While your here save space for their berry pies ala mode of course.

This restaurant is AMAZING. I got the Prime Rib which was cooked to perfection. It was also cheaper than nearby restaurants selling steak such as The Mogul or Chart House. Their clam chowder is also delicious with great flavor and consistency. They give you muffins and carrot cake right when you are seated and they are also both delicious. I highly recommend this place if you are in Mammoth Lakes. Next time I go, I will try out their breakfast which is also said to be one of the best.

Wow, Wow, and Wow I must say this place was great. From service to the food. I saw so many pictures of the French Toast that I had to try it. I'm generally a pancake man, but I broke away this one time and I'M GLADE I DID!!! The bread was from Mt. Olympus!!!! Surrounded by a powdered sugar cloud. AND THE SUN!!! YES!! THE YELLOW BUTTERY SUN. It spreads across the breaded land that has been sprinkled with the syrup of the Gods themselves. lol I also liked the Jar cups of orange juice, that's a pretty nice novelty and feel. The only thing I didn't like which is a bit nit picky. The wooden benches they are part of the decor "yes I get it" but I can see them being a bit uncomfortable for some. The french toast was numbing..... I think I actually saw Pegasus lol.

I give one star for food quality. Atmosphere was the type of place your grandparents take you and old people and families hang out. Very eerie feeling from the staff. The windows seeped in cold air. I ate dinner there. My friends had this steak sandwich and they liked it, it looked decent for a lunch. My salad was cheap colorless iceberg lettuce. Got pasta primavera which had no chicken. It was slightly better than frozen dishes you buy and heat up.

We yelped a place to eat after we were done snowboarding and found this place. They have a daily deal where their prime rib was $15 between 5-7, $17 between 7-9. Food: The prime rib itself was good, though I think the meat was a day or two old as it was a little chewy. They served the veggies a bit raw, but the overall food, the prime rib was good for its price. Service: Our waitress was Jaime and she was very kind and attentive, being we were one of the first one there. Overall: I think this is probably one of the better spots in Mammoth, I would come back to sample other food.

We've been coming here for many years. Today service was worse than usual. Our 15-20 minute wait turned into 50 minutes. Food arrived cold (eggs), butter would not melt on french toast. Waited 15 minutes for a refill on coffee. We need to decide if the food is worth it.

This is our 'must stop' place for breakfast before leaving town whenever we visit. The french toast is amazing, the sausage links are the best I have ever had and even their orange juice exceeds most places I visit. The restaurant is small so expect to wait if you are going on a weekend morning, but know that it is worth the wait!

I tried the blueberry pancake, the fried chicken, prime rib, mac n cheese, and sweet potato with marshmallows. The blueberry pancake is ok, fried chicken was bland and dry, the prime rib was good, the mac n cheese was bland but the sweet potato was gooood give me a bowl of that and id be happy

We were looking for a breakfast place and saw the great reviews for this place and decided to try it. Wow! Had the Veggie Omelet. Amazing!!!! My boyfriend and I split it and went back the next day again it was so good. Love the cozy, cute decor too. Next time we visit we will try dinner. The prime rib sounds delish.

Came here for brunch and it was great. I got a piece of french toast and a side salad, both of which were delicious. My dad got a tuna melt - also really good, not too much mayonnaise either. We've been here before for dinner a few years back and also remember liking it. Will definitely come again next time in Mammoth.

Waffles! Just gotta say these were the most decadent waffles I have ever tasted! Fluffy and light with the right amount of crisp! I ordered the Stove Special with over easy eggs, sausage, and french toast. My dish was quite enjoyable, but I really liked the few bites of waffles that I got from my friend. The meat loaf with mash potatoes with gravy was ok. Not the best meat loaf, but wasn't too bad. Definitely would come back here for breakfast next time I'm in Mammoth!

This place is a landmark of a breakfast place that never disappoints. If you come in a large group, expect a wait, but for 2, I was able to get in within 5 mins at 10am on a Sunday afternoon. 1) Friendly service, they are on it when it comes to refilling drinks and getting what you needs. 2) Fresh ingredients and perfect presentation. Nothing wrong with my order ever! 3) Parking lot... sometimes it's the little things that make it a great trip 4) awesome menu and specials, something for everyone that wants to have breakfast. I've been to this place time and time again. If you it's a good time with food you are looking for, don't forget this spot!

Went for Sunday Brunch. Arrived around 10am. We waited approximately 15 minutes to be seated. The place was packed, and all the employees were hustling. The waitress and staff promptly stopped at the table to take drink orders. The waitress returned and pleasantly took our order. Our food was brought out quickly. We had cinnamon french toast, blueberry pancakes, and prime rib hash. Everything was great! There was more prime rib than potatoes or egg. It was a huge portion. Every plate was a large serving size. We never felt rushed to clear out, even though the restaurant was really crowded. We loved this restaurant. We would eat here again.

This place is a pretty solid breakfast joint. It resembles a cozy log cabin inside, and it's quite bustley at breakfast time. I ordered a mushroom and cheese omelette; it was freaking huge (4 eggs?!?!) and also had a side of hash browns. I'm kind of picky about my breakfast potatoes, but these were decent. The food is nothing unique, but it's solid. This is a great place to fill up before spending a day on the slopes. My mondo meal kept me going for 6 hours. Impressive.

Fortunately the first impression didn't translate to a similar meal. The young gal who answered the phone, manned the front could use some training on cheeriness. That's the only negative to mention. The waiter and bus staff were super attentive throughout and after our meal, so overall the wait staff did win me back on the customer service. Although we went for dinner, I just couldn't pass the fried chicken and waffles. Not for the feint of heart for sure, but man o man, so good. The waffle on its own could stand up against any top notch breakfast place. Perfectly crunchy on the outside, yet airy and light on the inside with every bite. Stack a half a fried chicken on top of it, hot and juicy, yet not all crazy greasy. Crispy and flavorful, although probably could've used a bit of hot sauce on its own. But with the syrup and pancakes I think it was just right as is. Kids had the Mac n cheese and devoured that. Chicken fingers were standard fare.. Peach pie a Lauren mode. Save space cuz it's sooooooooo worth it. It's home cookin. Not fancy, but fair priced and large servings. Would love to try the prime rib in the future. And breakfast would be great here as well.

The Stove is moving to Perry's Italian Cafe (3399 Main St) UPDATE (12/16/12): Someone on Yelp emailed me today to report the Stove is staying at it's normal location and will not be moving to Perry's.

This place is great!!! New owners recently took it over and the food is wonderful! Homemade mac and cheese and meatloaf can't be beat! They portions are generous and they use top ingredients-fresh berries for the fruit cup, salads are crisp and fresh with one exception-- I agree with Greg B's comment on the chicken fried steak --quality wasn't there with the meat. I wish I had the homemade pie! But other than that-the service was wonderful and the new owner-John made people in the dining room feel welcomed! I would definitely go back!

This is by far one of my favorite breakfast joints in the world. Then again the line is as long as the boiling crab in westminster on a saturday night. WAIT a minute!!! its 7am on a Sunday with that 2 hour line in the SNOW!!! uhhhhh is it that good, or is the line full of lemmings? IMHO its mostly that good. Then again I have been eating here for 33 years. I can always find something tasty and filling before a long day of boarding, skiing, hiking, biking, or 4x4ing (mammoth isnt just about the snow you know!). I dont recall ever having eaten anything bad here. I adore the homemade country gravy with or without chicken fried steak or biscuits. The pancakes are bigger than an aliens eyes (you know they got big ones too). Even my 5 yr old loves it and she started eating there when she was just 1. I see others suggest a later breakfast and I would concur that is a wise move to avoid some of the lines (depending on your schedule). So next time you are in mammoth, get yo bootie over here for a tasty start to your day!

This has been my favorite place to visit in Mammoth since I was a kid. Unfortunately, I can only rate it 4 stars. It seems that the taste of the food has become more and more bland over the years, as well as the interior design. I know that it is a older place and supposed to feel like home but it is quite small a little face-lift or update would not hurt. Maybe Restaurant Impossible will come help them out.

Well, I'm not usually a country kitchen type but we were starving & The Stove seemed welcoming enough. I had the chicken pot pie & mushrooms on the side, while my chick had the chili & salad. The pie was good but, formerly canned mushrooms in my side dish were a disappointment. She liked the chili & salad. Fast & friendly service, very accommodating, good quality napkins. Good place to eat in a pinch. As a side note, nothing on the menu pairs well with any wine offered, stick with beer, in the can if possible.

Meth addicted waiter, and he's sister in laws serving up crusty pies from a Broken stove.. Might be good for breakfast , but the crazy OCD service was not fun unless u like the tv show Intervention. I'm sure they r kind people, but this place should be called the Deli Diner cause it seems like the are serving dried out Korean buffet from a New York deli. The pies taste like something from the supermarket and were unevenly cocked crusts. Probably a broken stove at the Stove. Sorry, this place was not good.

Excellent breakfast! Lightest, most delicious pancakes ever without that salty baking powder / soda taste. Very good - eggs, sausage, and bacon ! Perfect for the Mammoth bound traveller! I'd definitely make this a go to breakfast and lunch place at a reasonable price too!. They just opened for dinner service in time for the holidays but that is just seasonal. They did NOT move to Main street like other Yelp members posted - they are still at their original location on Old Mammoth Road.

This used to be the highlight of our trips to Mammoth, we would eat here before heading home. The food used to be so flavorful. Not this time, this time the food was bland, the only thing you could taste was salt.

It's been a traditional visit every time I come to Mammoth. It's good eats, large portions, and it has a nice country style decor. However, it's gotten VERY popular over the years and not surprisingly really crowded. The day we visited, just before we left, there was an hour wait. Wow, an hour? While I like the Stove, the wait exceeded my cost benefit ratio. I was hungry for good food, but not that hungry. Besides, you can't possibly get good service when it so busy and everyone in the restaurant is grouchy from the wait. Four stars for the food, two for the wait, which gives me a half way point of three stars. Give it a try, so as long the line of hungry people isn't out the door. Thumbs up and down, but let me know what you think.

Been going here since I was a kid. Just went this past weekend after just driving in town. My and girlfriend and I ordered the chicken pot pie, and the pork chops. Both were quite good. We got biscuits and a zucchini nut muffin right when we were sat which were both very good (honey, and butter at table). The Mac and cheese we got as a side was VERY good. My girlfriend took the chicken pot pie back to a place and ate it the next day! Service was very good as well. We went on a Friday night and it wasn't busy but service was great!

This place really can't be beat for comfort food in Mammoth. Breakfasts here are great -- plentiful, very reasonably priced and served promptly, with good cheer in a homey setting. You can't ask for anything more. The pies are made in house daily and they are very good. I especially like the berry pies. You can buy a slice in the restaurant or buy a whole pie to take home. The Stove serves good, satisfying comfort food -- nothing fussy or fancy, but very well prepared with a great quality to price ratio. One of the very best in Mammoth for breakfast.

I can see why its the best breakfast in town! We flew in today for new years and plan on doing Mammoth Mountain a few days. We stayed across the street at the Mammoth Creek Inn, very convenient other than the 40 minute wait time. Worth the wait though! Its the smaller older mom and pop style restaurant, which is the best in my book. I think they need more servers, at least in the morning when they are so busy, we waited 15 minutes to order after seated. The food was SO GOOD THOUGH! I had chocolate chip pancakes with biscuits and gravy, my girlfriend had the Avocado Omelette, which was the BOMB! I would lean away from the biscuits and gravy, very plain gravy and small biscuits. I have a feeling we will eat here 1-2 more times in the next few days here :)

Definitely not a dinner place. Skip the complimentary corn bread/sawdust & get a double of the zucchini muffins. Service was friendly-1 star I ordered the chicken Parmesan and wife got the chicken pot pie. Pot pie had a pizza dough covering with no flaky goodness, only a thick hard cap. Once you chisel your way through, the chicken gravy is super thin and bland. Chicken Parmesan was awful. It was swimming in the runoff from the marinara and the linguini was boiled way too long, very mushy. Marinara was lousy. Waiter even forgot our drinks...one star is generous

We ate here for dinner and were pretty excited to get a good deal on a nice prime rib. Well, that's what we ordered but we were very underwhelmed. The food reminded me of cafeteria food. The prime rib was slightly overdone but worse, it was so bland. Even the au jus was bland--it tasted like brown water. I ordered mine with mashed potatoes which had white country gravy on them. What? It wasn't even good country gravy. I can't believe the chef doesn't have enough juice to make real brown beef gravy. My husband had the roasted red potatoes and they were very good. It was just food, not any more than that.

Decided on their country fried chicken over the prime rib special this time. Awesome choice. Their country fried chicken was battered just right; flavorful, juicy, crispy, crispy, crispy. Even their gravy had a bacon surprise. (see photo)

I assume the saving grace for this place is the breakfast items. I wouldn't know since my friends and I came here for dinner. The menu is simple. The food choices are mostly southern based foods: chicken fried steak, country fried chicken, meatloaf, and served with potatoes: fries, redskinned, mashed (with bacon in their cream gravy!!!) or baked. The Prime Rib Special at dinner time is $15.95. They ran out at 8pm on a quiet Saturday night. They also ran out of baked potatoes (so I'm thinking this place may not have busy dinner service, but just a steady trickle of customers throughout the day - our party of 8 was able to be seated right away). The staff is very friendly and patient. You get a basket of homemade fresh cornbread (moist with crispy browned edges) and zucchini nut muffins (almost like buttermilk spice muffins). Most entrees are served with either soup (chicken veg) or salad (iceberg). The chicken fried steak and the fried chicken came pretty close to the real deal southern style cooking. Californians who have never sampled down-home belly bustin' grub should definitely take advantage as you probably will not get anything like this west of Texas. Chicken fried steak: a large portion of thick crunchy breaded beef with peppered cream gravy. I thought the breading tasted a little greasy and floury (maybe oil wasnt hot enough?). Country fried chicken: looks like KFC, with it's crispy crunchy savory chicken skin. I think you get a half chicken (breast, wing, thigh and drumstick). I had the salmon and it was eh. Grilled with a pineapple ring on top. Nothing fancy for the city of Mammoth. If you're looking for someplace to get a simple meal that will put you right to bed after a long day on the slopes, come here. Complimentary food coma with each plate.

Went here for lunch. My friend's salad had lettuce that was so old and slimy it should have never have left the kitchen. He pointed it out to the waitress who had her manager come by. The manager said "well we aren't known for our salads". Our thoughts were "well you are now!"

Darling Mom and Pop restaurant. My husband and I dine here every year for thanksgiving dinner, its a tradition for us. The team of employees prepare for a week straight to feed the village. Its everything you could hope for a thanksgiving feast. The wait staff is awesome and even though they are running around like crazy, they never make you feel rushed. They are accommodating and let you order your meal however you want it. Extra Sweet Potatoes for me!

Food at dinner was good here tonight, but we have never been treated so poorly by a waitress. She was very condescending when it came to answering questions about the menu even though that's her job. We left without tipping and will never be back again, and we will definitely be sharing our experience with friends, so they won't make the mistake of coming here.

Cutest and coziest place I have ever been to. I agree with the other Yelpers that this is THE HOLY GRAIL OF FRENCH TOAST! But it doesn't even matter what else you order, it is so delicious! It was our perfect last breakfast before we headed down the mountain to go back to LA. I'm not a big snowboarder but I definitely want to go back just for another taste of The Stove's french toast!

Health Department: "Cockroach Infestation"!!! - I received copies of the Health Inspection Reports for several Mammoth restaurants, and the most recent report for The Stove states that the inspector "observed cockroach infestation" (see photo of report that I uploaded). In addition, the report states things such as "inadequate sanitation" and "delapidated walls & ceilings to prevent vermin infestation" which must be fixed immediately "or face possible closure by Mono County Health Dept." This is not an isolated incident, as I also received the Health Dept. reports from up to 5 years ago and there were similar problems then! Unfortunately, city of Mammoth Lakes does not require restaurants to post the Health Department letter grades the way other cities do. If the City did require this, I am certain The Stove (and other restaurants) would make it a priority to fix problems such as these.

This Mammoth staple is comfort food at its finest. Though dinner offers a pot pie that kicks Marie Callender's back into the gay nineties (where she belongs), the real star of this show is breakfast... and the hordes that line up for it throughout the year (even the shoulder seasons) prove it. Locals and visitors alike pile into the knotty-pine booths and order up the signature Stove Special (best deal), Sierra Sunrise, or any one of several hearty omelettes. The portions are mammoth size (pun intended) and easily shared. My main complaint with breakfast is I wish they would serve true, shredded hashbrowns rather than small potato wedges. I found dinner to be rather heavy in the typical comfort-food style. It's delicious and the Friday prime rib special was generous and tender, but the classic potatoes, butter, and overall general starch-load finds me falling asleep in the booth within a few minutes of finishing (especially after a long day of skiing Dave's Run or hiking the crest.) The staff doesn't seem to experience very much turnover; the acquaintances I've developed over the past few years of frequenting the place are still there. They are always happy to see returning guests (many remember you by name) but, at times, the service seems slow (e.g. this morning a table of six who was seated and ordered several minutes after my party ordered was served ten minutes before us.) However, such instances are rare and the result is always worth it. In short, come for breakfast. It just may give you motivation to burn off some calories.

They gave me so much jack cheese in my omelet, they acted like they knew me with the amount of cheese they supplied. Lots of crispy bacon, four fluffy eggs.... and a side of sweet fruit. Perfect way to start the day in mammoth.

Was very disappointed with our dinner. Chicken pot pie soupy and barely any crust. Meatloaf dry and over cooked. Muffins and biscuits dry. French fries Luke warm. Will not be going back. We were looking so forward to eating here. Maybe there breakfast at better, just don go for dinner.

Outstanding .... We went for a late breakfast. My wife had the perfect French toast - full of flavor, hot, delicious. Everybody at out table had great breakfast fare. I wasn't he mood for lunch and went for their garden burger. Killer, awesome!! Don't know where they get their patties but mine was cooked so it was still juicy. Nice people, too. Highly recommend.

For breakfast this place is one of the best in mammoth. If you like French toast you won't be disappointed. Their homemade pies are also very good with peach being my favorite. Dinner on the other hand was just decent. IMO there are other places that I'd prefer to go.

Wanted to try this place with all the great reviews it got. Wasn't sure what to get so I decided to get the French toast because of all the yelp review highlights. This is the best breakfast place in town. I eat here every time I visit Mammoth. Their pancakes are great, as are their omelets. And the service is friendly. What more can a person ask for? PS - Beware, it can get crowded in the morning. Hit it early!

Terrific, friendly service in a casual atmosphere. We came in for dinner and had the prime rob special with country gravy mashed potatoes, and the chicken pot pie that has a perfect crust and a rich broth without being soupy. The complimentary bread is freshly baked cornbread and zucchini peanut muffins. I'd pay extra for them! Finish it off peach pi a la mode and you'll have a great meal, but it might be hard to walk out the door without waddling.

Not sure why this place is so hyped. The waits are long on the weekends and the food is pretty average. The servers were super nice and fast. They have a great grassy area out front where you can wait. Bring a blanket and soak-up the amazing vistas while you're waiting on your table. Don't half step. Order the biscuits and gravy and be happy.

I am always a fan of great food, but what really gets me to write a review is customer service. Everyone who works there has a smile on their face and works really hard. Yes, the food was awesome, but the customer service was better. The establishment has a great Mom and Pop feel to it, and plays really good rock n roll music. The servers and the bussers are on top of their game!. Thanks!

Hello to all my breakfast lovers! I found this place via YELP! =] yay! If you're looking for a breakfast spot in Mammoth Lakes then stop by The Stove! Came here for breakfast on Valentine's Day while visiting Mammoth Lakes for a snowboarding trip last month. I'm a sucker for breakfast, especially BLUEBERRY PANCAKES and FRENCH TOAST =] so that was my main calling to hit The Stove. I ordered their traditional bacon and eggs with a side of blueberry pancakes and OJ. My friend ordered a side of french toast. All very yummy and satisfying. Cute country inspired breakfast hot spot. Customer service was great. Food came out fast. We didn't have a problem with their free parking in their parking lot. No wait to be seated. Indoor seating in little wooden booths =] My word to the newbies... Come early! This place gets packed! We came here first thing in the morning and beat the rush! Go easy when ordering... their portions are huge! Ordering to go wasn't a problem either. Very fast and no hassle. If your love carbs and calories then THE STOVE is perfect breakfast heaven. I'm a fan ^___^ - Miss Yelp 2010.

Best breakfast in town !!!! The owner is usually around the staff is very nice the food is always great and comes out super fast. We've been here multiple times and even when there busy we've only waited about 5-10 minutes for a table.

This place is legit! $14.99 for a GIANT prime rib dinner? It comes with a HUGE side of potatoes. . . I opted for the mashed which took up half a plate. . . and even that wasn't the best part. . . the gravy comes with BACON!!! real pieces of bacon!!! To make it seem a little healthier there are some nice fresh steamed veggies. Oh for the other potato sides you can get fries, baked, or red skin roasted? I think? Great solid mom and pop place with good food, huge portions and good prices. Excellent service, my water never got below half empty. Will be back

After a night's rest of hiking and climbing, we check this place out for breakfast. Read all the great reviews, so was a little disappointed when the biscuits and corned beef hash came out a bit dry. Expected better when someone on the other table tried to order some and was told they ran out. Service was excellent and enjoyed the small, cozy environment. The personal pictures give it a nice touch, like eating at a friend's house.

Good service, good food. I had the meatloaf, friend had the chicken parmesan. Out of these two, I'd say the chicken parmesan was my favorite. Portions are huge as everyone mentioned: it took me another 2-3 days to actually finish my meatloaf...

About the breakfast...we'd been camping for several days before coming here, so everyone wolfed their food down. It was the perfect "back to civilization" meal. So many breakfast places serve stuff that tastes/looks the same, aka straight off the Sysco truck, but the food here was unique and clearly made in-house. We got there too early for biscuits, which didn't upset me because if they take the time to make biscuits from scratch each morning, they probably put that kind of love into the rest of their food as well. I chose french toast as my side instead, and boy am I glad I did. The serving was huge--a whole plate worth of french toast as a side! And the bread they used was lighter and thicker than any I've had elsewhere. It was like someone went on a quest to find just the perfect bread for french toast. mmmm. Plus, the service is friendly and prompt. They were super nice to our toddler and we didn't have to wait for a table. The prices aren't outrageous and the orange juice is fresh squeezed.

I'm a bit conflicted about writing a review of this place. Of course I want people to know about the "local business'/mom and pop shops", but do I really want to the lines to get any longer? :x Well, I'll do it anyway. Winding down from the weekend, it's a tradition from my companions to stop here for breakfast prior to the drive back to L.A. I can't thank them enough for taking me here. Breakfasts are served "country style". Hearty, big portions, if I remember correctly served in skillets (before it became chic to do it), and just comfort like food. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros which consisted of two eggs with shredded beef (perfectly seasoned FYI), cheeses, and chilies layered between tortillas...served with beans. The skillet could have fed two regular people, but it being one regular me, it was perfect to induce a satisfying food coma after. This will be one of the local places I would love to visit when I am in town. Be prepared to wait during "rush hours" (late breakfast - lunch), but honestly, worth the wait.

This place is a local favorite & it was recommended to us by a few friends during our visit. If your in the mood for some down home real country cooking this is your place. We went for breakfast since that seems to be what everyone was really raving about. I'll break this down like I do with many of my other reviews in a simple format that is to the point. Service: Our waitress was a very nice woman named "Lilly" and she was super attentive & very helpful. I must say the staff here is outstanding & very good. Food: I ordered the Pancake Sandwich witch consisted of 1 egg, 2 strips of bacon, and 2 HUGE pancakes. The bacon was crispy & the eggs were cooked well. The pancakes were the real star of this meal. They were light, fluffy, & HUGE. 2 Pancakes alone could easily feed a hungry person. Overall the food was good & I would return. Price: Prices were about average for the area. My Pancake Sandwich breakfast was $9.00.

I generally don't like posting negative reviews, but I felt that my experience here warranted one. My party and I received poor service. The tables around us received their food before us even though they were seated after we ordered our food. We were also ignored numerous times when we tried to ask for drinks/refills. This theme of waiting and being ignored continued throughout the dinner. I was also disappointed with the food. The french fries looked and tasted like they were cooked many many hours ago. We also got an entire dinner plate that was cold. We assumed that fried chicken and red potatoes would be warm, but they were not. I know that mammoth isn't known for its food selection, but my experience here was beyond disappointing to say the least. I hope the management revamps their food and service. Until then, I would not recommend this restaurant to any of my friends.

Yummy breakfast and cute atmosphere! We were a party of 6 so we came early to get a table, it was still packed! But the wait was still only 10mns, not bad. We ordered omlets, French toast and their special for the day, eggs Benedict! Everything was delicious and came out quickly. We would come back to try their prime rib dinner, since so many ppl rave about it!

Greasy, Tasteless food and over-priced. Got an egg white omelet and fruit - both o which cost extra and the plate came dripping with grease from the surplus of cheese on it. Gross.

Weve been going for 20 years. The french toast was super tasty and the sausage and bacon were yummy. Even the scrambled eggs were a hit. Food was fast. Server was nice. Coffee refilled often. However, it was kind of dirty and getting kind of old.

Breakfast is consistently good. Nothing cutting edge, no benedicts, but just solid staples of pancakes/waffles, eggs, potatoes, & biscuits... The older I get, the more I appreciate the simplicity of their style.

Breakfast at The Stove is a must when in Mammoth! The food is plentiful (I suggest sharing their humungous pancakes). The freshly squeezed orange juice and country potatoes are delicious! Service is friendly and quick. If you're not an early bird, expect a wait for seating. It's a small place, but worth the wait!

I was in Mammoth for a weekend trip. Since I didn't know of any restaurants around the area, my friends and I resorted to the Mammoth dining brochure for tourists. We decided to come here for dinner on a Saturday night although most of the reviews on yelp were raving about the breakfast here. We called to make reservations for a big group - 15 people - but they mentioned that it wasn't necessary because they guarantee there would be enough tables for us. When we arrived, we saw that the restaurant was pretty empty. The lady suggested 2 table booths for us. Although we were separated, it was the only option. There were only booths big enough for 6-8 people and tables for 2. The restaurant ambience is very homey. I like that they served us free cornbread & carrotcake muffins (delicious) instead of bread. I ordered the lasagna ($15.95.. really?!) and the bf ordered the country fried steak ($15.95). Everything on the menu was overpriced. If you're gonna charge more than the food in LA, it better be damn good. My lasagna was good but not worth the $15.95. I would recommend getting the country fried steak instead. Every entree comes with soup or salad. I got soup which happened to be vegetable beef soup. Soup was served in a cup size bowl. Bottom line- everything was good.. just a little pricey for homestyle cooking. The service was great and attentive. One thing though- if you pay with your credit card, make sure they charge you for the right amount. When we got back the receipt, we saw that they overcharged us $3-4 from the total on the original check and had to ask the waitress to fix it. If I was in the area again, I would probably check out another restaurant before coming back here again.

Horrible. I had western omelette with biscuit and some gravy. Apparently they charge extra for gravy but the dude took it off the bill because it was badly burned. I told the dude it was burnt and he should make a new batch before he ruins someones chicken fried steak and he said it must have gotten screwed up when he used his heating device and then microwaved it this morning. He said people were complaining about it yesterday too. So it was burnt made a few days ago microwaved thick pasty white nasty gravy with no meat chunks, yuck. Omelette was lame, egg cooked to death, big chunks of unripe and blemished nasty tomato, too much green bell pepper (not a big fan of green bells) and the bacon on top was just a nasty cooked days ago barely reheated dissolve in ur mouth because such a crappy cut of bacon single strip. My breakfast sucked. Coffee was crappy too. Wife had French toast which was pretty decent (only reason for 1 stars), but her sausage patties were pre-formed frozen and nasty (you know the type). Her eggs were eggs, definitely not cooked over medium but not a big deal. Service took forever. And the bill was $30, too much for crap breakfast. Limited menu too, not much to choose from.

So far this place is really a 3.5 star, but since that isn't an option I's rather give them the benefit of the doubt. I didn't stop in for sit-down lunch or breakfast. We came here solely for the pie. Their options are Boysenberry, peach, apricot, Apple and cherry. So far I've only tried the peach and boysenberry. I'm a snob about both types, so when I say they're yummy I mean it. The reason why I'm hesitant to give them a full 4 star review is because I asked what type of apples they use for apple pie and the reply I received was that they didn't know because the apples come from a can! That's 2 strikes in the world of pie making as far as I'm concerned. But perhaps I'll give it a try one of these days and find my opinion completely changed.

The food is good, nothing great or special. I think there is a lot more hype about this place than there really should be. Don't get me wrong though, if you come eat here you won't be disappointed, nothing is BAD. Just don't expect anything over the top. I have the Texas Chili Omelette, the chili wasn't that great like the waitress said it would be. The Stove combo isn't bad. Very traditional american breakfast here, so there isn't much to write about. Waffles, pancakes, sausages, eggs, bacon, etc, etc. Not a bad choice if you're hungry and in the area, but not a place I would rave about and urge people to try. If you do come here though, you MUST get the potatoes, that is the only this I would highly recommend, very nicely seasoned and tasty.

I LOVE ME SOME GOOD BREAKFAST HASH BROWN POTATOES and I sure got them. Delicious and such a cute little place. I have food allergies and our waitress was kind enough to accept substitutions. Food was cooked fast and they give out real breakfast portions. Plate FULL of plenty deliciousness. The place was overall very welcoming. I felt like I was eating at my grandma's house. And I must say, the food taste like grandma's cookin. I WILL come back.

A great breakfast place. The staff was really welcoming. Atmosphere of old school home cooking. Last time I was here, I had the large waffle which comes topped with lots of strawberries. I had the 2 eggs, sausage and pancakes special. The 2 pancakes were big and tasty and I had it topped with strawberries and blueberries.

I used to come here when I Was a kid (over 20 years ago) and when I told my Dad I was going to Mammoth with my husband and kids, he insisted I take everyone here for breakfast and order the biscuits with their homemade tomato jam. I was pleasantly surprised to find that The Stove was still open, but we were all disappointed to find out that they stopped making their famous jam years ago. We stayed for breakfast before heading out on our 5 hour drive home and after our super delicious meal we all joked that now we won't have to eat until we get home! Had no idea that our breakfast would actually keep us full until 6:00 that night when we arrived back home!!! My kids had the pancakes and they ate every last bite, my husband and I split the pancake, egg and bacon special and got biscuits and gravy on the side, all of which was delicious! Happy that they are still right there on Old Mammoth Rd. and will come back again with the family when we visit Mammoth again. Only wish is that they still made their tomato jam, if they ever bring that back I will 5 star them for sure!

Solid food, nothing too special, big portion, fast service, long line, what else can you expect?! Oh... you can call in to put your name on the list, so you don't have to wait in the cold when the front room is full of people.

We were in Mammoth for another fabulous week of skiing, and it has always been tradition to have breakfast at The Stove. Once again we were not disappointed and had a short stack of blueberry buttermilk pancakes and eggs with country potatoes and a side of sausage...mmm. The Stove serves the best breakfast in town by far...you won't be disappointed.

This place serves the Holy Grail of french toast. I've only been there once, but based on that plate of, hands down, the best french toast I've ever had, perfectly fluffy scrambled eggs, and some nice tasty and thick bacon (second only to Mahogany Smoked Meats in Bishop), I am sold for life as far as breakfast goes. The only draw back is that it's a really tiny place and it was really crowded when I was there. They seemed to get everyone in and out efficiently without making me wait too long for a table or rushing me out when I got one. All the employees I encountered were friendly. Just because I feel it's worth repeating, this place has the best french toast I've ever had (we're talking last meal good).

Much improved after the new owners took over last year. Breakfast is the best meal served here, dinner is improved. Best breakfast to me is the French toast; pancakes are poor in my opinion. (Locals like it Monday-Friday, but we give it up to LA'rs on the weekends!) Clean and good service. Prices are competitive for Mammoth, but but you get a good meal for the price. Still uncomfortable seating in older wood booths, so help 'm roll those tables before your back gives out. Former review from 2012: Good food at a great price. $12.99 prime rib is fantastic, along with the chicken pot pies. Salads are boring. Free rolls/zucchini muffins are really good. Seating is a pain on older wood booths but the food and good service make up for it.

Stopped by this place on our way back home from vacation. The owner I presume was at the front, didn't greet us and was pretty rude. Then we sat down and our waitress was short and kinda rude as well. Even if they have great food, seems like they need to work on customer service.

Hot spot for years, crowded? You bet because it is the place to go... Want a small breakfast that is low carb, low fat, and portioned correctly? Go elsewhere... :) The Stove serves up some of the best breakfast in town, large good old country breakfast. Best French Toast, home made biscuits, gravy with large chunks of sausage, scrambles, omelets and coffee that does not stop coming to your table. Staff is great, very busy and active... expect a line in the morning, but it moves pretty quick. Small place, you'll be bumping so just say good morning and smile.

I only went here for dinner, not breakfast, even though I think many people have raved just as much on their dinner entrees. Everyone seemed to love the chicken fried steak and I even read one person compare it to true comfort South-style cooking. Before I say anything about the food I did like the friendly service. I think that deserves a star since these reviews are not just about food, mainly food, but no just only food. I wanted the prime rib special, but at 7p they only had one serving left and it was well-done, not for me. The girlfriend got chicken fried steak. The gravy really wasn't as great as everyone claims and the chicken I bit into honestly, it was rubber-like. I think even Denny's chicken fried steak is better. Also, who commented that there were not many restaurants in CA that serve country fried steak?! Where in California are you from, Death Valley? As for good chicken fried steak and a large portion I recommend, albeit outside Mammoth, Harbor House Cafe (Dana Point, CA) and Ketih's (San Diego, CA). I got the chicken pot pie and totally disagree with these people who shoot down Marie Callender's pot pies...at least hers has taste and is creamy! The pot pie crust was more like a calzone top and not flaky which was fine as everyone has their own style. However, while the inside was hot the pie was soupy/watery instead of creamy. Furthermore, it wasn't well flavored and I felt like it could have used at least a little salt to say the least, note: I don't like salty foods, but I dislike tasteless food even more. There wasn't even any chicken flavor! I think even Marie Callender's frozen pot pie from Costco is better, no joke. I know every restaurant is relative to the area that is serves and while I'm not comparing it to anything from true Southern cooking, I think there's better food elsewhere in Mammoth. Even my girlfriend who lived in Alabama agreed this was far from Southern cooking. Have these people who claimed it to be just as southern cooking even been to the South? No, Miami or Orlando Florida doesn't really count. Maybe I need to come here for breakfast or just get the prime rib since it seemed to have sold out so quickly! Otherwise I don't think I will come back again. Food lacked flavor and had to be seasoned with pepper, tobasco, and a splash of salt. For southern bbq style Angel's wasn't bad. I'm going to try Breakfast Club for breakfast when I leave. $40 for two entrees and two beers, credit card accepted.

I've been going to the stove since I was a little kid. I love this place! I give it 5 stars because 20+ years has gone by and they still make food that tastes just as great as when I was a kid! The staff is always friendly and it's just a good comfort food fix! One of the best breakfast spots in town!!

Totally unacceptable behavior from the staff at this well known joint. We were a party of six with a 5-10 min wait. After waiting 35 min we decided to check on the list after seeing two parties of 6 & 7 go before us. When questioning the manager his reply was oh well , it just happens. His disconcen for our wait time and not asking the folks who took our seats...twice to understand and please allow us to sit, didn't offer to pick up our tab or compensating us for our time, etc. Knowing his place was popular enough to sustain itself without our patronage, he simply dismissed our concern. We left, went down the street to the Breakfast club. Was seated immediately, the owner waited on us himself because they edge so busy. Hmmm, I'll gladly patronize this place on future visits to Mammoth.

This was our second visit the first was ehhhh so we gave it a second chance and this was horrible the waitress was there totake an order and collect money, forget refills or extras....we wont be going back...you want a good breakfast head over to breakfast club, but, expect a wait for a table!

I've been here several times over my lifetime and was really disappointed today. The chicken friend steak I had was fine, but my kids ordered the fettuccine marinara and my 3 year old quickly pointed out that her pasta was cold. Apparently the cook thought the hot marinara sauce would warm it up. The food came out quickly and that was great since the kids were hungry, but we didn't see our waiter after that until asking for the bill and a to go container. I could look past the cold pasta, but having to wait and wait for the bill and then get up and ask the hostess for it equals a two star rating.

i love this place for breakfast...i ordered the stove special...the taste was good! i didnt expect that the ham will be that big...one thing that i dont like is the hot chocolate..it doesnt taste that good..it taste like plain water...so far for me this is the best place to eat breakfast in mammoth lakes area....the services are also good and very friendly.. CONCLUSION = RECOMMENDED!

I am not sure about the hype for this restaurant. The food was mediocre, the service was nice, the ambiance was country feel. But wow, it was not. The ambiance: the restaurant feels like a nice country kitchen. There are antique utensils, items and decorations all around. the seats are all wooden benches like you might have in Grandma's kitchen. I do feel like I am at a house with the wallpaper touches, etc. The food: I just couldn't get excited about the food. I had breakfast and asked for the best thing on the menu. I ultimately ordered, 2 eggs, meat, and french toast. The french toast is supposed to be the highlight of the meal. The eggs were overcooked. The ham steak was dry, and the french toast was good, but not overwhelming in any manner. i didn't feel like the french toast was something I couldn't get at any other diner. Service: Great. Friendly staff who have been there many years. if the service was so nice, I would probably have given this one 2 stars because of the food.

Average of 4 stars, right across the street from our hotel...I totally thought we had lucked out. But apparently breakfast is the only time it's worth coming because dinner was pretty meh. We showed up at 8:40pm on a Saturday and they close at 9pm, so perhaps the low quality of the food was because they were ready to close up for the night. The complimentary cornbread was dry, though I liked the zucchini muffins. Starter salad was bland, out-of-the-bag fare, but that's typical for a lot of places. Fried chicken was totally overcooked. The rotelli was a bunch of pasta thrown on a plate with melted cheese and a thin marinara. Don't order this. For $15 per entree, we were disappointed. Portions were big but the food wasn't good. Maybe next time we'll try breakfast, but we won't be back for any other meal.

Nice little restaurant. Friendly service. Fairly quiet, there weren't many people in there at all when I went. Chicken fried steak was ok. Sirloin steak was pretty good. Kind of pricey for what it is, but so is everything else in Mammoth.

This place was mentioned to us as the best breakfast spot in Mammoth and the food did not disappoint. We stopped here on our off Saturday from riding and were able to walk right in and get a table. We did come back to join friends the next day and there was an hour wait so be warned. The place is pretty small and very popular, a tough combo in this ski town. Our food was great, and portions huge. Our service was a little lacking due to how busy it was but our server was very friendly, just a bit overwhelmed. It took some time to try and find syrup for our pancakes but our drinks were refilled promptly. I'd definitely recommend this place if youre out in Mammoth but either get there early or prepare to wait for a table.

I have been going to eat at The Stove since I was a little girl. I used to adore the place but I honestly need to say the food is almost inedible now. I'm not sure what happened but this last time I visited, I ordered the Fettucini Marinara and it was a large plate full of over cooked noodles, a few tablespoons of marinara sauce which tasted like it was straight from a can and microwaved. The food was worse than the worst airplane food. I really hope they can step up their game and get back to the delicious restaurant it once used to be.

Another place that is a must try in Mammoth. Went for breakfast and ordered their avocado omelet with turkey and hubby ordered their french toast with sausage and eggs. Portions are huge!!! I devoured my omelet, french toast was so yummy, and sausages were good too :) Give this place a try (at least for breakfast) and you won't be disappointed!

I've been going to this place since i was a kid and i love it! their food has never changed and i've always just liked the feel of the restaurant. Their coffee is delicious and the service is great! i guess my only dislike is that the chairs/booths aren't that comfortable and sometimes the tables aren't cleaned off very well, but it's not exactly a HUGE deterrent haha GO EAT HERE :)

Easy to get to. Clean. Simple. Good food. Found it through yelp. Kid friendly. And cost friendly.

Went there as the local press call it "best breakfast" in town. It's an old, country style restaurant w/ the typical stuff on the menu. The portions are huge, but there is nothing special fancy w/ the food. It's so typical for the average American breakfast, that 3 stars are more then enough. Seating was quick and the service perfect.

Being a hungry Pacific Crest Trail hiker and coming into a town like Mammoth is always great. I was talking to a local on the bus coming down from Red's Meadow and he told me that we had to hit this place up for breakfast. They were pretty busy, but the group was seated as soon as we walked in. The waitress was quick with the coffee and water refills which is always a surprise when it gets busy. I had an omelet that was stuffed full of cheesy goodness. The toast and jam was also awesome. Good sized portions and good service. Whether you're a hungry hiker or just driving through stop by for some breakfast!

Got the Stove special. Perfect for two people before boarding. Not too heavy. Yes - the French toast is as great as they say. Not too sweet and a lot of cinnamon. Fresh OJ an coffee were perfect too. Decent price and very friendly staff. Wouldn't change a thing here.

Food was very overpriced - didn't taste good. Overcooked and dry pork chops - out of prime rib by 6 :30 pm when they open at 5 pm -

This place looks pretty good service was fantastic. even though they were very busy and they quick to get us coffee and water and take our order. biscuits and gravy were terrible!!! The gravy was bland and had pieces of limp bacon. my husband had the french toast and said it was pretty good. I had the ham which was huge and potatoes which were pretty good. The only thing I regret is not picking up one of the pies that looked amazing.

Haven't been in a while but when I lived in Los Angeles, I'd go uyp to Mammoth several times a year and The Stove was on the list every time, as was my fav Mexican place in town, Roberto's. As any place in Mammoth that is really good can be, this places gets busy. Plan ahead, go early. I have had a lot of different dishes here from the Biscuits n Gravy to Pork Chop bkfast to Stove Special & Sierra Sunrise-all very good. No complaints. And the coffee was particularly good. Good service. Good prices. I'll be back when in town.

Good hearty food in a down to earth atmosphere. Meat loaf was hot and yummy, the coffee was always filled. Skip the snobby crowd.

I had liver and onions for the first time in 20 years and it was great! The waitress was great very friendly. We will definitely be back. Music could be more appropriate. They were playing rap which just doesn't fit the scene

No wait at 10:00 on a Saturday -- woohoo! The Stove is a cozy little place that offers good comfort food on cold, snowy days. French toast and waffles were filling. Try the chocolate milk which is served in an original way.

Dinner review only: Got the Linguini , it was watery and cold and nasty. No one even liked their food i was with. all was cold and bland and the prime rib special was pan fried and chewy. NASTY. After camping for 4 days and you want a hot nice meal, I am sure there are way better places in mammoth for that!

We arrived at Mammoth when it was super snowy and we were looking for some comfort food to warm us up. This was the perfect place, the restaurant is very quaint we went on a Sunday evening and it wasn't packed. The server was quirky he highly recommends the special which is the prime rib so all 4 of us ordered the prime rib... quality was excellent and whats even better is before 7p it's $13.95 and after 7p is $15.95 what a deal! The meal comes with a cup of soup or salad, choice of potatoes (fries, mashed, baked, or red skins) and there is ayce cornbread & muffins that are really tasty. I've read other reviews that their breakfast is good we have yet to try it. This is a place we would definitely go back to when we make another trip to Mammoth.

I really don't like this place, and I'm not sure why. It's got weird, homey decor, which I usually like in a breakfast place, but somehow they take it too far. They serve their drinks in mason jars which is quaint looking but not very nice because you're constantly butting your lips and teeth into the ridges for the lid. (I'm a huge water drinker, so this is massively annoying.) I also don't like that I've never eaten here without having to wait at least fifteen minutes for a table. I remember the food being OK, but I have many more memories of being annoyed by the jar glasses and waiting in uncomfortable chairs for a table.

Oh The Stove.... Long wait Too busy to give good service cute decor okay coffee nasty fries because their too hard but everything else was yummy..so i guess the wait is not too bad Overall..an okay experience. The food definitely helped to make it better. French toast is good huge thing pancakes (we tried blueberry and buttermilk..both of which were nice and tasty. I like that they go heavy on blueberries for the blueberry pancake. makes me happy!) Huevos Rancheros..wow i saw it and didnt even know what to do with it. It wasn't too good in my opinion because it wasnt very appealing. Meatloaf-BOMB mash potatoes! Had chunks of potatoes in it! I didnt really try the meatloaf..but everyone enjoyed it very much so! Sunrise something..it wasnt that great. Just potatoes ham peppers onions and eggs mixed together Tuna Melt-yummmmyyyy! but it came with fries that i didn't enjoy at all! They were very hard. So if you like hard fries...they're all you! They do have oatmeal here which is a great thing for me. but they dont have breakfast burritos..weird aye? They dont have corned beef hash either. The service wasnt very good..well they got stuff done (refills and clear plates) but with a rushed attitude and the coffee refills took a little longer. So it wasn't horrible but you could tell they are all very very busy. which is understandable..45 min wait on sunday at about 11:30sih

This restaurant lives up to the hype around it. French toast is good. Chocolate pancakes are great (one is more than enough food), omelettes are also very good. Good service as well.

Went for the cheap prime rib dinner early ($12.95) and was not disappointed. Nice big cut of prime rib veggies and the biggest baked potato I have ever seen. The service was very good and our server was most pleasant. The decor was homey with nic nax all over. Would definitely come back for more.

Go with an appetite because the plates are humongous! The breakfast is your typical, American-style diner food, and it's all delicious--especially the french toast, waffles and omelets. They're generous with every part of their meals, especially when it comes to cheese, butter and the rest of those things that'll earn back the calories you burned on the mountain. The fresh-squeezed juice comes in mason jars, and there are kitschy items strewn about for decoration. It's really all you could ask for from a small-town breakfast place and well worth the wait for a hearty meal before leaving town. Man, just thinking about all that greasy, cheesy, bready goodness I'm feeling stuffed again.

  • Duchess T.

Their prime rib dinner is by far the best thing in town. If you get there early, there's a happy hour price for their prime rib dinner. The chicken pot pie was a bit too salty for me (and not enough crust), but their chicken fried steak is also just as yummy! Unlike the pot pie, the apple and cherry pie are as good as they come no matter where they go. I now make it a point to buy a pie on my way home to LA (rather than shopping for baked goods at Schat's in Bishop.)

AMAZING! How can you screw up breakfast. Oddly enough it does happen. This place is great. Had an amazing omelette. The waitress took my drink order before i even sat down. So great! Food was excellent. All of my friends were super pleased with their waffles, pancakes etc. Waitress was awesome, she was funny and witty and made a great time for us. Good place to get yer grub on before a hard day of riding DG

Went in for dinner...the help was pleasant...the foods was very average yet priced above its value. I've had far better pot pies at chain restaurants. My child had the steak and mashed potatoes with Bacon fat in the gravy and it was just not worth the nearly $20.

  • Connie T.

Great atmosphere, with cabin homey feel, but the food for this place was ok. i guess its as good as it can get since its in mammoth? stereotypical all-american food with not much flare to it.

  • Huan V.

There is nothing better than a big slab of juicy prime rib, creamy mashed potatoes, steamed veggies, corn bread, and a hot bowl of clam chowder after a cold day on the slopes. It's even more awesome that all that only runs you $12.95 if you come in before 7pm. Come early though. Prime rib is limited and you don't want the end pieces. Medium rare is the only way to go.

I first went here 20 years ago with friends and remembered it for the amazing breakfasts. Took 3 of my kids yesterday and it really has not changed. My husband got an omelette which was delicious, and the kids were happy with their chicken and burgers. I got a turkey sandwich was good, but I should have ordered from the breakfast menu! Server was friendly, but the hostess was downright mean! Video games were broken, so luckily the kids didn't have to wait for a table!

We have had breakfast and or lunch here at least once sometimes more often when we are in Mammoth. In the past would have given it 4 stars but something is happening at the Stove. Our lunch was OK, just not as good as in the past. Patty melts were cooked as requested but not flavorful, they were just OK. We requested a salad as the side and that was fine; fresh and crisp. Service was fine. The restroom was gross!!! Not sure we will return to the Stove.

Not good for dinner: The food is bland. The stove seems more like a breakfast place. The cornbread was the worst. I wouldn't eat here for dinner.

This place is a must for breakfast. But beware cause you could be waiting for a long ass time if you come on a stormy morning or between 8-10 on a weekend morning before skiing. The service is excellent and the food is gluttonously delicious. I always get the same thing when i go in and it fills me up plenty. The sunrsie special with sausage instead of ham. And a large orange juice with a cup of ice on the side. I heard their lunch and dinner specials are just as good but have never tried.
